This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

The Tales Series(Abyss, Symphonia, Eternia etc.)

10 months 4 weeks ago

"I am sure that someone in the earlier post mentioned this but a new Tales game is coming out for the Tales series. It's called Tales of Innocence.
8)E emoticon

It'll be on the DS but whether it is released outside of Japan is still a mystery (I hope it is released, my Japanese is not good enough to tackle a game).
.( )# emoticon

Even so, there seem to be very unique characters in this game.
A girl named Iria(?) who can use two guns. So it's kinda like a playable version of Legretta(Regret) from Abyss.
<3 emoticon

And a guy (with a cool attitude from what I take it) who uses twin Katanas like Lloyd. It's kinda like Lloyd and Guy put together. His moves, from what I've seen, our awesome!

Naruto Shippuden latest anime and manga episode discuss

10 months 4 weeks ago

"I seriously can't wait for the next chapter.
I'm assuming that Konan was Jiraiya's student meaning she was part of Minato's team.
Also, I can't figure out what happened with Pein's body. It looked like Deidara's body but then again... it could have been a copy of Deidara's body which he now controls. Maybe he has a copy of every akatsuki members body and uses them(I guess by transferring souls) in battles where they would have a natural advantage via elements the original of that body used. Maybe that's what those pods were a few chapters back. If I remember correctly, each pod held a body of an akatsuki member(about six of them). I'm guessing those were the copies. It's best if you go back about to chapter 369 so you know what pods I am talking about( they appeared at the end of the chapter). Does that make any sense?

Well, whatever hopefully we will find out next week. "

Expensive Things... Does it really give you status?

10 months 4 weeks ago

"We first have to take into account the fact that we do live in a materialistic society (I know, it's sad). So naturally, the idea that buying more material products would make people happier resides in the minds of most people. So as for the question about whether expensive products raise social status, the answer is yes. If a person owns an expensive product(s), he/she will be a distinguished member of that community. In a sense, the products a person owns represents the social class of that person. It's not necessarily true but that is the idea.

I, personally, don't care about what others think of my possessions. If I choose to buy something expensive, I would do so knowing it will make me happy(not to show off). However, I save my money for my college education because that is what matters to me the most right now, not my social class and definitely not my social status.

Genetic engineering

"To the post above. ^
That sounds a bit more understandable. My point is that the level of thinking has nothing to do with heredity (unless the parent(s) bear some form of defection).

Omnidevil
Actually, there is such a distinctive level, you do know that smartness, or the brain of thought, is built by the brain, it is the act of thinking, thinking does not come from nothing, it consumes energy, growth nutrients such as protein and so on to become the functional thinking part of your brain.

If this is true, then it validates my point because if a person consumes more/less food or nutrients, then that would affect his way of thinking. However, it is important to know the difference between performance and the level of knowledge. More food would most likely increase performance but no matter how much someone eats/consumes the right amount of nutrients/food, they will not get smarter.

Omnidevil
If there is a genetic engineered factor included in the idea of creating smarter children, that would be enlarging the brain and improving its absorbing ability. Which is possible, children exposed to high levels of certain nutrients and vitamins have shown growth in areas of science and recognition, although the level of difference is small, the difference becomes larger as time goes on.

If this is true, then I suspect that it will instead increase the performance level which could make the person smarter.

Another Asian songs rather than Japanese, Korean or Chinese?

"I don't listen to anything other than Japanese and sometimes English but I heard this one Taiwanese/Chinese artist sing and he was really good. His name was Alan Kuo (Kuo You Lun) and the song I heard was called Zero. I heard this on youtube in a Final Fantasy 13 video. The link is below and I suggest you listen to it because it is definitely worth it. For anyone who is not familiar with Final Fantasy series or does not like it, just watch the video for the sake of the song. Besides the video isn't that great anyway(my opinion).

Many are able to decide whether their child is smart or not...i don't mean a dumb baby or smart baby, what I mean is a smarter baby... say for example, both parents are averagely smart and they want a really smart baby! there are places in America (i think) where they can go to chose sperm which has been donated by a really smart person! of course, the donator probably also has other aspects, but basically, what the parents are looking for is a smart baby. things like this has happened before...

Um... I personally don't think there is such a thing as one person being potentially smarter than another. Any person can be just as 'smart' as another if they trained themselves in that certain area. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say that every persons thought process is identical (which is evidently not true). For example, one person might be more inclined to a geometrical way of understanding math whereas another would have a more algebraic sense of understanding. So the former would have an easier time understanding geometry than the latter (but one could argue that such traits of understanding are acquired and are not innate but that is a totally different debate). Of course, if a persons brain was defected and inhibited his/her thought process that is a different story but judging from how you used the term 'average' I could tell that is not the case. Anyway, what I mean to say is that the example you used is not something I think is true. However, I guess it might be possible that science could influence a persons thought process to make them think more critically, logically, etc. but I don't think a persons 'smarts' or logic can be inherited, only learned. Also note that a persons I.Q. is not absolute and can change overtime(I doubt that it could decline though).

Well, sorry for making it lengthy. I figured I should clarify before other people are befuddled by that example. That is all I have to say...

Instinct or 2nd thought?

10 months 4 weeks ago

"I prefer my intellect over my instincts.
But it ultimately comes down to the situation. If I have the luxury, I would definitely go with my second thought and intellect. The more time I have to decide, I would most likely spend the time thinking about the choices I need to make (that is if they were difficult choices). My intuition is there for last resort and I only rely on it when I have no time to think (in which stopping to think about the logical answer would be illogical in itself). If you have the time to think, it is best that you do so instead of relying on your instincts from the start. "

However when it comes to building the 'perfect baby' I don't think we should ever get to that point because it throws a wrench in evolution and natural selection. What may be 'perfect' now might not be 'perfect' in the future, and that can cause mankind problems in the future.

Good Point. That is a very convincing argument.

On the post above , let us look at the example of the dynamite and then the A bomb, has mankind ever ceased being mankind? All things have pros and cons, I think we can't avoid that, but if having can save a thousand lives, it should be done.

Yeah... your right. My worry is that even if mankind saves many lives with the technology of genetic engineering, they could use the technology to take the lives of thousands of others as well.

But, then again... whether or not genetic engineering is legal is irrelevant. After all, if the military or the government needs such a technology then there is no stopping them from using it even if it is not released to the public.

I guess my point is that we live in such troublesome times where ultimately the knowledge obtained by mankind could possibly mean certain death for all of humanity. Don't forget about the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima or the great Cuban Missile Crises. These are examples of the product of mankind's ambition and desire for knowledge. Sure, genetic engineering might seem like a heavenly relief but it is only a facade, insignificant compared to a life of constant warfare.

*sigh* Humans are so... pitiful...

Genetic engineering

"... Wow. I didn't think the topic of genetic engineering would be this controversial.
I really never thought too much about this issue. Well, if I had to choose a side, it would be...
(o_o) emoticon
...
i guess genetic engineering would be acceptable, but only to cure diseases.
I realize the progress science has made and if it is possible to cure certain illnesses beforehand through genetic engineering then it should be legal. However, I don't think money should be an issue (how low can people go if they think money is more important than the life of a dying human being). But I don't think parents should have the right to 'customize' their children to their liking since it is not their life to begin with (no matter how 'good' they think their child will look).

However, I do not assume a firm position for this issue. The reason I say this is because I know mankind will somehow find a way to manipulate this potentially powerful technology for selfish reasons which could cause pain to a great number of people. After all, any tool can be used for good as well as evil.

If you don't understand what I mean by how the technology can be manipulated to harm others, let me give you an example(it might be a bit exaggerated but still possible):
The military can use the technology to enhance the abilities of the soldiers and wage war against third-world countries in order to gain control of the country altogether.
This could also escalate to much greater levels of warfare but I won't get into that.

Well, that is all I have to say about the subject.

Which anime do you think has the deepest meaning? the best morals/themes?

11 months 2 days ago

"If by 'deep' you mean an anime with a rich plot, developed characters and increasing suspense/tension (from an objective perspective), then I would have to say....? wait, there are too many to select from.
(o_o) emoticon
...
Well, I guess I could choose one(though it is just an example, not the best from all the anime I have seen). Gundam Seed/Destiny is a good example. The story was interesting in the sense that you never know what will happen next (after all, it was a war). The characters were awesome. There was a great deal of character development from almost all of the characters. There was also a great amount of suspense and tension, especially on the battlefield (you just never know what will happen and there was always a possibility of someone important dieing). It also brings up the philosophy of war, what is right and what is wrong, and why it is humans fight in the first place. Indeed a great work of art.
8)E emoticon

However, if by 'deep' you mean an anime with a great deal psychological/philosophical plot or theme then Ergo Proxy or Serial Experiments Lain are the best examples I could think of. There are even times when you will be left totally confused due to the rich and very complex storyline.
~(@_@)~ emoticon

Other animes which I consider 'deep':
Death Note
Fullmetal Alchemist
RahXephon
Code Geass
Evengelion
Ghost In the Shell
Noein
*sigh*
and much, much more...

I loved Tales of Symphonia (which, ironically, I picked up to satisfy me while I waited for another RPG I had highly been anticipating to release...only to find that ToS was a MUCH better experience in the end) and I pre-ordered Tales of the Abyss in the hopes that it would be even 1/2 as good -- though it sits patiently in my backlog at the moment.

If it's anywhere near as good as ToS then I know I have something great to look forward to!

Trust me, I loved Symphonia and Abyss is just as good if not better(my opinion). I am sure if you enjoyed Symphonia and would most likely have a great time with Abyss.

is it legal to download anime?

11 months 3 days ago

"
nychi002
The makers of anime work because they need to make a living. It is impossible to to survive doing nothing but a income-free "hobby". Which is what you have if you do a task for nothing but enjoyment. A hobby. At this point its real-life people's livilyhood were talking about. They may make anime because they "enjoy" it. But do you honestly believe that they aren't hoping even praying the see a paycheck every so often so that they can have money to eat and support their families? I dare you to do a hobby you enjoy, receiving no benefit, no compensation, and tell me where you plan to get your next meal? It's not as simple as "I enjoyed making this and everyone else should enjoy it too, so it should be free". One last thing, if you have the capability to download then you are also have the capability to purchase anime from anywhere in the world. So the location excuse is no longer valid in this day and age. It has become really nothing more then a cheap pile BS. As long as you stick to reputable dealers and not ebay, or some cheap unknown site that no one's heard of, with deals too good to be true, then you'll be fine.

You mentioned that it isn't hurting the industry by fansubbing. Well if that truly is the case then tell me why eight years ago, 3 major animation producers in Japan had to close their doors because they weren't making any money? Tell me how "fans" of anime who consistently refuse to purchase legitimate versions, due to whatever reason they can come up with, are not hurting the industry? If you're not supporting the industry, you're hurting it. That's how industry works. Why is it that in order for a series to even be finished in Japan, it now needs a foreign license holder? In some cases that license holder will even pay the producers to finish the series. If the industry can't even support itself in its own native country than the industry as a whole is hemmorging.

Go back to the first page and read what Geassmind wrote. There is in fact a gigantic ethical debate surrounding this issue. You mentioned "advertising" as one of your points. The thing about true advertising is that advertising a product (yes, anime is a product. Product means money. This is an industry remember) only involves a limited exposure to the target audience. This limited exposure is designed is such a way that the viewers will want to go pick up the product and try it for themselves. Uploading an entire series for all the world to see is not advertising because, and it kills me to say this, the majority of the viewers will no longer purchase the anime afterwards. They will either delete or save the AVI files and simply move on to the next show. Therefore they provide absolutely no support to the industry. And your so called "advertising" theory has just failed because the industry has now lost money. If a product does not sell the industry loses money. It may create awareness for a show but all the awareness in the universe does absolutely nothing if the creators/prodcuers see no return. They can no longer afford to make their next big project.

P.S. Just so you know, in order to make one, singular 22-24 minute episode in Japan costs approx. $150,000. I kid you not!

*sigh*
My, my what a lengthy speech. If what you said above is true than I was wrong. There is no excuse, it is illegal.
How presumptuous of me. I shouldn't have made such baseless assumptions. Thank you for informing me about the harms of downloading (as apathetic as I am, these facts, assuming they are true, shocked me for a second). I will definitely take it into consideration the next time I am faced with the temptation to download. And yes, $150,000 is a horrendous figure indeed(especially since it is just for a single episode). "

is it legal to download anime?

11 months 3 days ago

"Yes, in a sense it is illegal.
But a law is a general rule and does not always mean it is 'wrong' . The law is there to protect the interests of people in most cases but in this case I think it is alright to download(but only if it is not available on sale in your country). Besides, you have to stop and think about why creators create anime in the first place. I think it is for people to enjoy not for them to make money. I truly believe thats the case. After all, It's not like fan subbing groups are taking credit for the anime, just the subbing. If anything, they're supporting the anime artists/creators, not hurting them( it's kinda like 'advertising' as some of the posts mentioned earlier).
So, if the question is about the law, then yes, it is illegal. But if it's about ethics then I don't think there is anything wrong. However, if you have the opportunity and money to buy the anime (should it be on sale) then I suggest you do so instead of downloading them for free because it is still illegal and it is a good thing to be on the safe side.

Certain Animes you hate and like and why?

11 months 3 days ago

"Such a broad question/topic which I could write pages over pages about(I will try my best not to).

Ultimately, I love animes with great plots, character development(definitely), and if they could make me think(about love, sorrow, life and death, metaphysics, the future etc.). A great example could be the Gundam Series, Gundam Seed/Destiny in particular. It had an awesome plot, a great deal of character development and it definitely got me thinking about the philosophy of war and what it really is people fight for(I'd best not get into that since that is a whole different topic all on it's own). Eureka Seven is another good example. Also, I like animes with a good balance of joy and sorrow, love and hate and etc.
For me to consider an anime 'great' it should be full of suspense, tension and full of surprises/plot twists. Death Note is as good as it gets(no argument there).

Recently, I have developed a liking towards anime that deal with the supernatural/cyberpunk like Lain, Ergo Proxy etc. They definitely make me think (total mindjobs).
~(@_@)~ emoticon

Animes I don't like are pretty much those that fail to meet my expectations above.
Also, I hate over-dramatic animes that are 'realistic' and deal with 'life' and are devoid of anything dealing with the supernatural. An example of an anime like that is
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien( not that it's a 'bad' anime but it just not to my taste). When I watch an anime, I want to dive into a world different from my own. Noein is a good example of an anime that does just that (I just love it).

Well, that's pretty much my taste in anime in a nutshell. (^3^) emoticon "
