This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Fairness
7 months 1 week ago
"You've already given a very good answer to your own question haha. Well, sometimes fairness is something that's very subjective after all. Treating your sibling to a dinner for good performance, and buying you a present for yours. If both costs the same, which one is more 'worth the result?' I can't find an answer to that, perhaps someone here can? Haha.I understand being a parent isn't easy, they need to strike a balance between all their children. Due to their indivudual preferences, you can't just get the same thing for all of them. Lets say you buy 2 lego toys for your 2 sons, but it turns out only one of them like to play with it, the other one is bound to ask, 'why did you buy something my brother liked, and not me?' Kids will be kids, they've yet to mature to the level where they can think in the shoes of others. Anyway, you can't say sibling rivalry is all bad. A little competition can spur both parties to work harder, and to excel in their respective fields after all.

"That's the point raised by those who disagree with the global warming threat. It has it's merits, but you have realise that in the previous cycles, we aren't doing so much damage to our own planet yet. Talking about the age of dinosaurs, dinosaurs aren't destroying large portions of the rainforest like we are today. Neither are they sending up gases that contribute to global warming like we are today. Granted, the climate can be altered with natural catastrophes like volcano eruptions, meteor strikes etc. But this time, we are the ones responsible for it. And unlike the above mentioned ones, this is something we can do about.True that with climate, it's very difficult to predict what's going to happen next, but with no solid evidences for either side of the argument, I'd say it's better to err on the side of caution, wouldn't you think?"

"You know, that's a really very selfish thing to say. That it's not your problem because you won't be around with it happens. If we don't start to do anything now, there won't be a future for your descendants. Though we won't live to see the fruits of our labours, just as it's in our natural instinct to preserve our race through to urge to eat and mate, we should think further that just that. The main purpose of creating this thread is to see just how aware our generation is of the threat global warming poses to us all humans. While it is heartening that most are, I find it disturbing that quite alot the average person on the street are pretty much apathetic to the consequences, simply because it won't affect them. Though it probably won't turn out as bad as books and activists claim, people are already begining to feel the effects. Look at Venice for example. It is said that by middle of the 21st century, it'll have to be abandoned because the floodings getting worse each year. How accurate that statement is, I cannot say, but I'm pretty sure even if it's an exaggeration, there's still the element of truth inside, is it not?"

Tipping
8 months 3 weeks ago
"That depends on different countries. For singapore, it's not really our habit to tip. I work in the service industry as well, and I realise it's always the singaporeans who count and keep all the small changes we return them after their payment. Perhaps it's just the stingy and calculative character most singaporeans possess. But even for good service rendered (in my opinion :p ), we seldom get a word of thanks.Heck, some of them, especially the rich ones seem to go around with the idea that they deserve the treatment they get, and therefore no thanks are required. So we can kiss any hopes of tips goodbye. This is especially true because the cafe I work part time in, charges a 10% service charge. So I guess most people think we don't need the tips cos the 10% accounts for it already. What they don't know is that that doesn't even go to us >_< Only those at the top of the hierachy actually profits from it. Therefore in my opinion, service industry is indeed a thankless one.
Anyway sorry for digressing, back to the topic - it's usually the expats who would tip us, and sometimes quite generous too, especially if they are impressed with the level of service we render them ;) so yeah, i think tipping should be encouraged. It doesnt have to be much, a coin or 2 is enough to show your appreciation for our hard work. It's the thought that counts after all."

"Actually, some countries are already feeling the effects of global warming. Especially in the tropics. Our monsoon seasons are getting longer, with heavier rains each time. Flash floods, something which has seldom happened in my country since the developement of drainage systems, are occuring ever more frequently these 2- 3 years. So, yeah it's not something we wanna shelf away just because it seems to be far away. The effects pollution has on global warming are not instantaneous. Whatever we do now, the effects will only show 10 - 20 years ago, however I don't think we'd wanna hand over the reins of the world to our children in a screwed up shape, do we?
True, till now scientists are unable to come up with a definite answer to just how our climate is being affect by global warming. There are theories that the Earth will be plunged into an Ice Age, others predict the temperatures will keep rising till the ice caps of our poles melt completely and inundate many of the low lying countries. If you haven't noticed, food prices are going up because our agriculture is being affected by the increasingly unpredicable climate. With food slowly being reduced, and the human population continuing to increase. All the political bickerings we see now will be nothing compared what's predicted for our future."

"I was just reading a book about global warming from Reader's Digest, and it has brought up alot of interesting points about just how serious the situation really is. Weather patterns are slowly becoming more and more unpredictable and while the predictions of scientists may seem to be very drastic, they might not have been all that far from the truth. The books has alot of pictures comparing certain locations at different years, and it's pretty shocking to see just how far the ice has receded over the years, and gaining in pace too.So wad do you guys think? Is global warming progressing at a rate that is as bad as the scientists claim? And is there still time for us to rectify the errors of our ways?"

"Hi, has anyone watched this anime series before? It's by Clamp, and it's story is produced simultaneously with Tsubasa REservoir Chronicles. As such there're plenty of references between the 2 series. Basically this anime focuses on Yuuko, the witch of dimensions frequently mentioned in TRC, as well as her part time helper Watanuki Kimihiro which the gift/curse of sight of spirits. This ability of his attracts the attention of both benign and malevolent spirits, seeking his aid or life force. Therefore he comes to appeal Yuuko to remove this ability. In the customary Yuuko fashion, she agrees to help him but at a price - helping her do her housework and run errands haha. This anime is steeped in the ancient lores and beliefs of Japan, and is a very interesting show to watch. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series, anyone else does ? :P"

A Kiss... Cheating or Not?
8 months 4 weeks ago
"In my culture, kissing is something that's seen as an intimate act between couples. Be it a simple peck or something much more, uh, spirited. So yes, I'd view it as infidelity to your partner. I know for some coutries they are more open minded about such things. But being brought up in a conservative family and society, my peers would definitely frown upon such acts between a pair that's not romantically involved. I mean, heck we don't kiss our sisters/brothers do we? (infants don't count). If we don't kiss our siblings, we shouldn't be doing that to mere friends too."View
Are we meant to live forever?
8 months 4 weeks ago
"No i suppose we aren't. We are simply inhabitants of this planet, sharing it with billions of other organisms. It only makes sense that our eventual fates are shared too, which means a limited life span, reliance on food, air and water to survive. That is the fate of us an Earthling, but, nothing is set in stone. Perhaps somewhere far into the future, mankind really discovers the secret of longetivity, but that's not our 'destiny' I'm sorry if this doesn't really seem to make sense, my command of language is kinda limited >_<.But all I'm trying to make here is a distinction between whether we're meant to, and whether we can. Based on the topic, I'll say no, we're not meant to. But, eventually I believe we will."
