"By re-color, do you mean you already vectored this? i mean, did you re-trace the lines of your scan? if you did, the lines you made are too thick. that makes the scan look messy and of poor quality. try using thinner lines, or if you like, try filling in your path instead of stroking your path. or you can look for a good vector tutorial. there is a vector group here on animepaper. you might find a good tutorial there. "

"The extraction of your scan needs work. see the outer lines of your scan? they're pretty rough, and they need to be smoothened out. fix the extraction, that's the first thing.

i like your concept and the text, but i think the font needs to be changed. i'm sorry i can't suggest anything for a replacement font.

the idea of a late afternoon sky is a pretty good one, but i think it needs ot be repositioned behind your scan. the clouds that you see are ususally horizon clouds, so i think you have to move it up a bit. also, it looks a bit too distant, if that makes any sense.

not bad for a first try. it just needs a bit of work. "

"There are some problems with your wallpaper. first of all, your clouds are not nighttime clouds. they're a bit too lighted. you have to tone down the brightness. think about clouds at night, especially around the moon. they're mostly in shade, except for the portions where the moon lights them. also, the shape needs work. if you want to make realistic backgrounds, you have to make it look real. either get some pictures of clouds at night, or get rid of the clouds. the moon itself is not bad, by the way.

the birds are also a problem. think, is it possible you would see birds at night, especially since your birds are so far away? also they look like a stamp or a brush, and it's a bit obvious. again, look for some nighttime scenes, and try to make it closer to the way it would look in real life.

also, there's a problem with the color of your leaves and grass. the grass is fine. certain grasses would look that pale in moonlight. but the leaves are too green, it's like the kind of green you would see in daylight, even if you have dimmed it a bit.

sorry this has been long post, and i hope you're not discouraged, but your wallpaper is going to need some work before it's ready for submission. "

that the ripple effect is the reason they won't accept your wallpaper. I had a wallpaper with a ripple effect about a year ago, tried modifying it several times, and it kept on getting rejected. finally, i tried to pm one of the mods and i asked what was wrong with it. one thing they said was that the ripple effect was a problem. the site has its own aesthetic and that just goes against it. so maybe that's the problem. if you take it out, your wallpaper might have a better chance for acceptance. "

"First thing, you don't have a signature on your wallpaper yet, so don't forget to add it before you submit.

second, make sure the size is at least the minimum, which is 1280x720. my resolution is bigger than that, so i can't really tell if yours is at the minimum, but it looks kind of small, so you might want to check that.

next, i don't think the gallery accepts .png submissions. just to be sure, save your wallpaper as .jpeg before you submit it.

as for the paper itself, well, i have to ask if the graininess is deliberate. if it is, you might want to tone it down or do away with it completely. or at least, if you want to keep it, keep the grain for the background and clean the grain off of abel. it's not so obvious on the gloves, but it is on the violet parts of his clothing.

the design is a bit too simple. you might want to try to add something to it, though i'm afraid i can't think of anything to suggest at the moment.

hmm, that's all i can think of. it's not so bad for a first try, but i think you need to put more work into it.

"To tias, (and everyone else) yes, it has a lot of noise, but all the noise is 100% percent deliberate. the orginal scan is black and white - it's from a page in the manga. i colored it, and i put the grain in. OK, so maybe it's too noisy. say for instance, i take out the background and make a new one. would that improve it? are there any suggestions for a new background? "

"Personally, for builds, i just got all the augments for all the characters (except for shield block, because i have fran and balthier as pure ranged) and half my party is ranged, (balthier=guns, fran=bow, penelo=crossbow) and the other half is melee (vaan=dagger/1hand sword, basch=axe, ashe=1handsword, all with shield). of the ranged, only balthier deals serious physical damage. the other two are most useful as casters, and the ranged weapon means they'll mostly keep out of harm's way, so i can put magic equips on them. of the melee, i have vaan stealing (this is important, as some of the better stuff from the bazaar does not come out unless you trade/sell the rarer items you can usually get from stealing with the thief cuffs), ashe as a melee (white)mage, and basch is a tank, and deals heavy physical damage. that's my party setup, and it works pretty well. i haven't tried it against the yazmat, but i'm thinking of switching weapons for vaan before that. "

Airships are also a good place to buy teleport stones early in the game (they may or may not become available in stores later). Handy information if you like jumping from town-to-town ^_^

yep, they do become available. outside of the airships, the earliest access you can have to teleport stones are from the guild bazaar, after you've gone up about 2 ranks or so. but later in the game, like in mine, teleport stones are really easy to come across, and they are sold in practically every item shop. "

anyway, there are two ways of getting a bubble belt, as far as i know. one of them i just read in a faq, (i've forgotten, so i'll have to look it up again) and the other way is to raise your rank in clan centurio until it becomes available from the clan shop at the bazaar in rabanastre.

the thief cuffs can be bought, i think, from either the phon coast or mt. bur-omisace.

the flying foe gambit can be bought from any gambit store later in the game (i'm already just before bahamut, and i can't remember when i bought it, but i've had it for a while.) dispell can also be bought, if not from archades, then from balfonheim (though i think it's dispellga from balfonheim)

not sure about your other items, but there is a good accessory available from an easy side quest, the regen ring. not only does it give you regen status, it also gives defense and magic defense. just take the six sisters side quest on the commercial flights around the cities. also, airships are the only place i know you can buy the spell syphon. "

"Your basic composition has potential, but there are a few points you have to cover.

1. the resolution is too small. the minimum resolution for wallpaper submissions is 1024*768. you're going to have to fix that before you can submit this.

2. i can't be entirely sure because your wallpaper looks small on my screen, but you seemto have some problems with the extraction, espeically around the strands of sakura's hair. also, the scan needs a bit of cleaning.

3. the mods here do not smile upon repeated/reflected images in a wallpaper. i tried submitting a wallpaper like that once, and they rejected it thrice.

on the bright side, i like your choice of colors and the heart pattern is rather pretty. a bit of work, and this will be good. oh and before submission, don't forget to include your signature. "

"Just a technical thing, i think part of the reason your wall was rejected was that your signature is so big and right in the middle of it. i think it does say in the rules that the signature should not be part of the wall, it's just there for identification, preferrably where the taskbar will hide it. i agree with hadora. it's probably not a good idea to make the character look so much like part of the background. it makes him look like he's made out of grass, or something. if that was your original intent, well, i think the idea needs work.

a background is, afterall, just that; a background. now, there are some walls that look like pure background, but they're designed differently from yours. you're trying to show that there is a character here who should be the focus of your wall; that is why you have his name on it. since this is the case, you should make the wall focus on him. i personally think you need to scrap the background you have now and think of something else. either that or rework it entirely. good luck. "About the blur tool, if you're in photoshop, it's probably more effective if you set it to blur all layers, not just the particular layer selected, which is the default setting. when you select the tool, look at the toolbar that pops up just under your regular task bar. look for the option there "sample all layers", and click the check box. that way it will work for all layers, as if your image was already flattened. instead of the blur tool, though, you might want to use the smudge tool. the blur tool basically smoothens out the pixels, but the smudge tool smears the color of the pixels across each other. try a combination of both, see how it works out. oh, and there's a "sample all layers" option for smudge, too. "
