"I like the textured red part, and the big H looks quite nice :D I would suggest a less scripty font for the background lyrics, something simple like Avant Garde; and maybe you could place the lines closer together so there's less blank space behind Haruhi.

Also, the lines going behind Haruhi and down the "God Knows..." text are too bright, and take attention away from Haruhi herself D: So please lower the opacity of those. And to make her brighter, you could duplicate her layer and set it to "Overlay" or "Soft Light" (assuming you're using Photoshop or PSP). It's one of my favourite techniques and should help her stand out a lot more :D

Which version is better? They're exactly the same save for the background; the stripes might be too busy, I dunno :/ Any fixes you guys could point out would be appreciated, as always. :3"

But since I'm stubborn, here are two versions; one without the border, one with %D



Changed:
- Smudged out all the pixelly bits I could find, especially on the hair and hands. Now they look smoother~
- Went over all the prominent lines on the scan: in the clothing (sweater and shirt), chest lines, hands and hair outlines.
- Added mod-looking flowers in the back. I'm not very good at pop arty stuff, so if you have suggestions for something else I'd be happy to try it out.
- Added a cute little heart in the speech bubble :D

Anything else that should be fixed? :3"

Another wall from me, because I'm impatient and have like 1346120346 in progress :') Something simple this time; I replaced the original text on the scan, added the bottom border, the blue colour, and scratch textures galore. I also fixed the overall colour and tried to smudge out some pixelly bits.

Please tell me how I can make this better; if you could point out places where the quality lacks, that would be extremely helpful :3"

"Wow, you've put a lot of work into this wall, and it shows in your improvements! :D I'll write in point form:

- The first thing I notice is the font. This isn't good on a composition level or style level; the focus should be Rei, so you should brighten her up some more (try duplicating her layer and setting it to Overlay, Soft Light or Screen). I like the blending on the text, but I'd pick a different font; something in all caps, like Times or Century Gothic. The bottom line of text seems to be stretched out a bit, so it'd be best to make all the lines the same proportion.
- Maybe it's just me, but there are three pairs of wings on her back? xD I'd lower it to one (being the back pair), so they aren't as distracting.
- The outlines around Rei, while extracted, are too blurry and clash with the crisp outlines on the crosses. If that wasn't what you were going for, I'd suggest deleting around her with the polygonal lasso on 0px feather.
- The big blurs are also a hair distracting (especially in the top left), so please lower the opacity on those.

You don't have to use all of these suggestions, just things I noticed ^^; Good luck! I can't wait to see it finished~"

"Yeah, I definitely like this version better :D Awesome vector! A few things I notice:

- The grass isn't that defined in comparison to the ground. Considering the simplicity of the wall, the best thing to do would prolly be to darken it.
- The music notes are cute, but not very interesting to look at D: Maybe try skewing/rotating them?
- Your signature seems to stand out a lot. Making the drop shadow less prominent would fix that.
- Part of her left eyelid (it's right when we look at it) seems too sharp in comparison to the rest of the vector.

Other than those, very nice! Can't wait to see the finished product :3"

"I'm leaning towards the version without text, myself ^^; I just think the wall is more balanced without it; even if it's faint, you don't quite know where to look at the wall that way. Now the focus is definitely in the lower right first and foremost, and then in the upper left with the feathers.

On a technical standpoint, this wall is very nice! But the only thing I notice looking at it now is that some of the feathers appear cut off. The lowest one in the sky (nearer to the left) and the duplicates of that shape definitely look truncated. If you round off the edge, it should be fine :3

"Sorry for taking a little longer on this version, I was kinda busy %D plus I started another wall which I will post when this one is finished, lawl. But here it is:



- Got rid of the line on the side – it was residue from the paper texture
- Smudged out some of the more distracting paper texture lines
- Erased all the hair bits
- Very slightly altered the tinytext line. Sorry Astrologica, but I can't do without it xD It just ties the text and the wing together in a way that I really like;;;
- Made the feathers stand out more

I definitely think it looks better than it ever has, so don't worry about being nitpicky~ Actually, I encourage it! :D Right now, I'm kind of wondering whether I should take the curved lines out, since they aren't needed anymore – y/n?"

- Changed the tiny text so it's a lot less subtle (yeah, it's supposed to be text, not a solid line)
- I couldn't really see where the four columns were, but I completely redid the feathers anyway. I hope it's better now? And I did try putting them in the lower left as well, but it just obscured the scan and I didn't like it too much.

Anything else I should change? I quite like how it's turning out~"

"Wow, this wall has really improved from the original! :D I love how you've integrated the background and the water especially looks great. I feel like it's summer, looking at this %D There are still a few minor things I notice:

- Anko's legs... once they go into the water, they just end D: It's good how you considered the curve of her legs when cutting them off, but you should still be able to see them in the water a little. Try lowering the transparency to bring them back, but not too much.
- Though the wall has texture, it's still blank on the right side. Have you considered moving both Anko and the logo over tot he right a bit? As it is, she's almost pushed into the left too much.

Other than that, great work! Can't wait to see the end result :3"

I love both your walls, they're so unique and pretty *___* On the second version, I agree with all of what pink-sakura said and I have a couple of things to add:

- I would actually suggest changing the font back to the one you used in the first wall (Badaboom, I think?) It would go nicely with the diagonal lines.
- On those white diagonal lines, I notice a bit of a grain around the edges (in the ones on the gray border mostly). Would it be possible for you to erase that? Since nothing else in the wall is grainy, it doesn't quite fit.
- Also, maybe try lessening the shadow on Ritsuka's outline; it makes him stand out, but it might look more like he's more a part of the environment without it, I dunno. You can ignore this one if you want.
- Oh, maybe you've realized but this version doesn't have a signature yet xD; Minor thing, but I just thought I'd let you know.

Great progress so far! I can't wait to see the finished wall :3"

"Thanks so much again for your input, guys. Detailed stuff in both words and the marked wallpaper really helps me :D I tried stuff, but nothing really looked appealing to me... well, I made a version with feathers and without.

Now that I look at it, the version in Photoshop is a -lot- darker than this D: I wonder how I can make it carry over?

On both, I:
- erased those hair lines
- tweaked the line of text below "how bright you glow" so it stands out more (like Astrologica said, it was too thin, but now I'm worried it stands out more than the main text)
- extended the curved lines more to the upper right in lieu of the duplicate

The feathers were some brushes I found; I thought it might be nice how they're shadows instead of solid feathers. Any better?"

- Darkened some spots and thus brought out the colour (mainly in the top-right) using textures
- Added some curved lines to link the two pictures. It doesn't look too bad, does it? xD

Fixed:
- The colour/opacity of the smaller type is the same as the larger now.
- The divide between the yellow and white bits. Now it's all yellow and more pleasant.
- The top right corner is a little darker in lieu of something more interesting – it's hardly noticeable, but it's not too bright.
- Some of the scan next to the character's face on the left was too grainy, so I blurred it a bit. It flows more this way, I think.

Yaaaaay~ So much better again~ But what do you think?"

"O-omg. What a cool vector and wallpaper! *___* I love it, so good. The only thing I can crit is the motion blur – it looks fine on the cards imo, but it just takes away from the characters. But don't get rid of it altogether, I think it'd be fine if you just decreased the opacity~ Either way, I think you're just about ready! Awesome work :)"

"XD I really like the text, very clever! Simple is nice, but I think this is almost too simple. Maybe you could add some textures in the back (like paper) to add some interest? The vector is very well-done, but I tend to notice that some of Fye's hair isn't connected at the ends; it's kind of distracting when the rest of the lines on the vector are closed.

Anyway, fix those things and you're almost ready to submit! :)"

"Wow, what a gorgeous wall! The background is superb, I can see how much work you've put into it *___* Well, here are a few things that stand out for me:

- how the character and the left palm tree kind of blend into the background. You may want to put a very faint outer glow or drop shadow on those, just so you can tell where the foreground ends and the background begins.
- I think it's kind of hard to read your signature with the shade of green it is. I know it isn't a big deal, but try making the green a little lighter?
- The clarity of the reflection is pretty, but almost unrealistic xD If the water was completely undisturbed, I could see why that would be, but seeing as there are tide lines on the water, you may either want to distort the reflection a tad (Motion Blur, maybe) or decrease the opacity. In this case, it's really the birds that stand out the most, the hills mountains can stay the way they are.
edit: I actually agree with asa01 on this one, their suggestion below is far better than mine! Yeah, decrease the saturation and maybe blur it a little (the reflection) and then it'll look even better :)

Anyway, even if you don't make any of these changes, it's still an outstanding wall :D I'm hilariously nitpicky. Good luck."

Fixed the text, took out the semi-colon, took out one of the duplicates (I had to leave one, the top right looked too empty), and tried to fix the scan a little. It was blurry to begin with, so if I sharpen it too much it'll turn up grainy :[ Still, I like it a lot better now!"

"I like the design you have so far – Tactics is awesome, and the background pattern you chose fits quite nicely. Though, would you mind if I suggested something entirely different for the wall? As it is, you're not quite sure where to look first when you see the wall.

What I'm thinking is, you take out the characters on either side, and put some more space between the two middle pictures, so each is centered on the line between the white and patterned background. If that makes sense xD; Then you could put some text between them. I suggest this composition if you like having your wall centered.

Either that, or take the two extracted characters, put one behind the other, and place them on one side of the space. If you did this, I think it would be best if you changed the pattern to run horizontally along the wall, and change only once from white to the pattern about 1/3 up the wall.

The other thing I would suggest is to take out the 'tactics' logo and the drop-shadowed line along the top, and just put 'tactics' in your own text (the font is Impact, iirc) somewhere else. I just think it would look a lot cleaner that way.

"I love this wallpaper! *___* It's really great so far. Just a few more tweaks and I think you're ready to submit :3

The extraction looks really good, so clean~ But as far as the character goes, since she's jumping and her shadow is far below her, I think it would be best to put some shadow behind her as well. Because if you don't notice the shadow below her, it looks like she blends into the background too well; since the background is so bright, we don't want her to have to compete for attention with it.

Um, that's about all I can think of, other than maybe tweaking the Brightness/Contrast on the girl :O I hope to see this wall soon in the gallery!"
