"I think math, like a lot of subjects are a hit or miss. Some people just get it, some people don't. Some people get it up to a certain point, for example they can compute fine but they fail once they hit algebra or calculus, and some people just keep going all the way through real analysis and are geniuses.
I wouldn't say that I'm a math genius, but I'm pretty great at it. It's probably my favorite subject because it's:
1) entirely objective
2) not bogged down with over complications of the real world like the sciences, esp physics.
I think a good teacher is very helpful. My grandfather basically taught me all of algebra before I left elementary school, but my pre-calc teacher was kind of meh, so I never learned much. Then again, I basically taught myself calculus the next year because I once again had a bad teacher. My grades in math have never been stellar (low 90s, high 80s) because I seriously can't do arithmetic. It literally is my weakest link in math.
Favorite math subject would have to be calculus followed closely by statistics followed closely by linear algebra. I had a blast in linear algebra II even though it turned out to be a formal mathematical proofs class. Didn't expect to like proofs, but I did.
I think people need to realize their weaknesses with math and not push it or be overly delusional with what they're capable of (a lot of people think they're better at math than they really are). It's really not for everyone, and that's okay. You probably shouldn't take calculus at all if you have issues with algebra, and there's nothing wrong with that. I also think that people have issues with the fundamentals. Too many of my fellow classmates don't really know the ins and outs of algebra and that's what ultimately leads them to struggle with calculus problems." View

"Then you have a big group of people gathering and basically being themselves. Which means that you're trying to organizing a rally to do pretty much nothing. >_>
Individualism comes in so many different ways that a lot of the time, things people do to be individual can be misinterpreted as trying to fit in. For example, I live in Austin, the biggest hippy, independent mom-and-pop supporting city of all time. There are tons of vegans in this city...so many in fact, that being a vegan and believing in organic food can be seen as fitting in. But in general being vegan is suppose to be an expression of being individual. My point is, I don't really think that individualism is a problem in this world. I think that people who conform to popular opinion choose to do so, and that's their right to do so. It shows a lack of strength in their will, and I don't really think that anyone can do anything about that." View

"While commercialism can be viewed as pure waste to a lot of people. That really is an oversimplification. I mean, it's really easy to look at luxurious things and say "that is so wasteful" we don't need that, that just wastes resources, space, and money. But what a lot of people fail to realize is that huge hotels like that provide a LOT of people with jobs. A lot of decent people depend on luxurious industries in order to provide for themselves and their families.
Just think of what would happen if we stripped America of its luxuries. The amount of people who would be out of work would be ridiculous. The entire economy would crash horribly. So while, it's certainly easy to say, we don't need the giant five star hotels; you have to consider the fact that they are more than just frivolous money spending places.
And in truth, there is nothing wrong with wanting lavish things if you work hard for them. A person, who works hard for their money, has every right to want to enjoy the finer things in life when they are on vacation. It really isn't a sin...esp in America where land and resources are bountiful. What would you really do with those "wasted" resources? can you think of something that would benefit millions upon millions of people by providing them with a source of sustainable income?" View

DO YOU THINK LOVE EXIST ?
1 year 6 months ago
"This is aimed at the post above me made by hamzakun which I will not quote because that would be very long.
Regardless of how you feel about love not existing for YOU. You can't write it off and say that love doesn't exist for anyone. To me, your reaction to one failed relationship is very negative. You can't not do something because you're afraid it won't work out. I mean, I'll die one day, is that going to stop me from living now? But regardless, it's your choice for life, and you're free to do what you will. But the point remains, I'm in love. I have been for a very long time already and hopefully it'll last forever. And even if it ever ends, I will never say that I didn't love my boyfriend because that would be a lie.
So if you do respect other people's opinions, then you would see that love not existing for you might be all good and dandy, but it's rude and presumptious to say the same thing for everyone. And so my point is: love(romantic love) may not exist for all people, but it still exists. Actually, I believe it exists for most people. And love can last forever, I've seen it happen, and I hope that it will happen for me. And it really irritates me when the cynics of the world generalize and say love exists for no one.
Also, I find it weird how you contradicted yourself in your statement. In your first sentence, you said that you loved, but your last one says it wasn't love. It's all very contradictory." View
DO YOU THINK LOVE EXIST ?

hamzakun
I think married couple are based on deep respect and destiny but not love because after 3-4 year if there is no respect the couple fall down even if they “still love each other” I know two people who thought that no one can separate them they get married even if their parent were not agree but after 5 year they divorced and who was the victim of course their children the mother want to take them with her but the father don’t want it but she took them by force (low) and after that she want get married the father take the children with him and it’s the pity
So where is your love?
How is the fate of two people representative of the state of love for all humans? That seems rather closed minded. You're trying to make a case for all humans by only one example.
The only people who don't believe love exists are people who have never been in love. This is very self-evident because if you've been in love, then you would believe it exists. The main problem I have with these people are, they don't understand how presumptive they are. I'm in love with my boyfriend. Have been for more than three years now. We live together, and are perfectly happy (with minor fights). So here comes someone, who has never been in love, trying to tell me:
"What you feel isnt love. It will never last forever."
And yet, they don't see how presumptive this statement is.
1) How I feel is my call.
2) How do you know it will never last forever?
And then I get responses that run along the lines of "because so and so told me that in their marriage/relationship, the love didn't last" Well that's too f___ing bad for them, but again, how are a handful of cases enough to say that love will never last for any of all 6 billion people on Earth? And so does love exist? Absolutely. Does love last forever and ever? It might. Does everyone experience love? Hopefully, but possibly not. But love isn't something that can be written off just because so and so didn't work out." View

...That's unrealistically optimistic. Studying is a necessity that must be completed. Some subjects you love, and studying can be almost enjoyable. "An intellectual person is someone who is worldly. Namely, they know alot about the going ones with the world. They are well educated, and can understand political/musical/pop culture/artistic references in converstation. Most importantly, intellectuals enjoy learning, and place a particular value on education.
Being an intellectual has very little to do with actual IQ. If you aren't mentally retarded, anyone can be an intellectual through enough study/work. The opposite of this of course is that not every intelligent person is intellectual. Children are often very intelligent, but very few children have the knowledge/experiences in life to be intellectual. On the flip side, the intellectual professor just not be quite as smart as one of his brightest students in terms of raw brain power.
If you were trying to define what makes a person intelligent, that is very vague. I certainly don't believe intelligence can be measured by any kind of test (the IQ test in particular doesn't seem to say much about anything). Intelligent people are also capable of making ridiculously stupid choices. The fact of the matter is, it's all relative, and can't really be defined. My closest stab would be, how quickly someone can grasp new concepts determines their intelligence. Even this statement isn't entirely true, as an intelligent person could just be really bad at math." View

"Other issues aside, I don't see how games like these could possibly work. It kind of seems like one big joke more than anything. First of all, educational video games have never been and will probably never be popular/successful. Parents buy them for their children, sure, but the age group of children playing educational video games is much much younger than the target audience of these games. Teenagers aren't going to look to videogames to educate them. Teenagers care much more about gameplay/graphics/etc... I can't see the creators having the resources to pull a create a great game with wide appeal. I just don't see these games ever being popular enough to make any kind of difference.
Also, like you said, Byakuva-sama, for the games to be taken seriously and not just for amusement, teenagers have to made aware of the game's intentions first. Would teenagers be willing to play a game with that kind of aim behind it? Would teenagers be willing to play a game about the seriousness of the middle east? Woudln't such a campaign make the game seem more serious than fun and turn off a good portion of potential players?
And finally, I don't think current events can be addressed and presented from one side. I think that teenagers need to be able to learn to research events and develop their own opinions on serious issues. I think a game like this would undermine this process. personally, most kids are woefully underinformed about the world's issues, but I don't think a generalizing video game is the solution." View

You might as well ask people if they have ever breathed. Who hasn't lost and missed something in their life??
And everyone has felt at some point that something is "missing". It's one of those universal qualities that makes us all human. So yeah, who here has ever taken a breath?
I think you're taking it a little to far. It's a good question, in my opinion. Throughout my life, especially recently, I've noticed that I haven't really missed things / people, but just found myself adapting to life without them. It's about your perspective, I guess. I think if you always go on missing what you don't have then you might miss something right in front of you that you could have. And missing isn't necessarily a human only emotion. There are dogs at my house, one mine and two my roommates. My roommate is in Costa Rica right now, and I can tell the dogs miss her. I can tell my dog misses me while I'm at work or class every day by the way she acts when I come home. But like I said, I think it's all in each individual person's perspective on the situation.
Let me start off by saying that while I was blunt, I was not being too harsh.
You've never missed anything before? Not even for a little bit? You've never felt that there was something you wanted in your life that wasn't there? You've always felt your life was complete and absolutely perfect? You've never, not even once, even minutely felt that there was something intangibly wrong or missing from your life? Basically, you've never been sad for no real/good reason? I wasn't talking about dwelling on it ad infinitim, if you can adapt: bravo. But you've never missed anything for even the smallest of moments?
If so, then fine. You win.
Universal qualities that unites us as humans. Not that it's exclusive to only humans, but I believe it's something that all humans experience so it's something we can all relate to in some small minute way. Your arguement about the dog is lovely. I wasn't talking about dogs. I'm talking about universally human qualities that may or may not exclude other animals/things. For example, hunger. Everyone has felt hungry before. That doesn't mean animals haven't felt hungry before, it's just something that all humans can associate with. So if I wrote about hunger, it's something that everyone can relate with to a certain degree. And it's these associations that connect us all as humans regardless of background, etc..." View

The Latest on Harry Potter

"I think that from all the things that have happened, it's very likely that Ron will die. He fits all the other iconic achetypes of best friend/shadow who dies in the big battle against evil etc, etc...
As for the other character, either Harry or Vodlie-locks has to die. I'm almost certain that Voldie will die. Harry Potter isn't the kind of book where evil pervails. It is still a book geared towards children afterall, and I can't see Rowling willing to send children a message that evil will win. (Although really, Voldie is a TERRIBLE character as far as villians are concerned. Tom was wonderful, but Voldie is more cute than supreme evil) Still, the only way that Harry can die is WITH Voldie. But I don't really see this happening either.
So basically I'm putting my bets on Voldie and Ron with the possibility of Voldie and Harry. I hope to god it isn't Harry though. I'd much sooner Ron die off." View

Church and state in the US isn't completely spereated, and in the cases that they aren't...normal people just see it as too insignificant to actually care. I mean, every session of congress opens with a prayer performed by minisaries from all different religions.
But I digress, money is money across the world. And the use of money overseas has to be converted to other currencies, etc... They aren't specifically handing over the US Dollar. And if money can be converted, what's printed on a specific bill means little doesn't it? I mean...it's all just money.
The line of association only seems kind of diluted." View

"You might as well ask people if they have ever breathed. Who hasn't lost and missed something in their life??And everyone has felt at some point that something is "missing". It's one of those universal qualities that makes us all human. So yeah, who here has ever taken a breath?"

The Latest on Harry Potter
2 years 3 weeks ago
"I think that from all the things that have happened, it's very likely that Ron will die. He fits all the other iconic achetypes of best friend/shadow who dies in the big battle against evil etc, etc...As for the other character, either Harry or Vodlie-locks has to die.
I'd much sooner Ron die off."

US currency:
2 years 3 weeks ago
"I don't find it ironic. No one cares about "In God we Trust" on all our bills. Most of the time we just ignore it...occassionally there are lobbyists for taking it off the bill for speration of church and state, but on the whole, no one cares.
The line of association only seems kind of diluted."

About date and sex...
2 years 1 month ago
"Well I personally think that sex is an important part of every marriage. Therefore, I would be unwilling to marry someone I had never had sex with. That said, I woudln't have sex with anyone on a firsti date. I think sex should mean more than that. I guess, I'd have sex when I knew that it was a serious relationship...however long that takes..>_>But like princessclover said, it's all up to personal preference. I can understand the reasoning behind no sex before marriage. I just wouldn't abide by this. Also, if two consenting adults want to have sex on their first date. I don't care really as it's non of my buisness. But again, personally, I'm not alright with it."

Girl trouble

"If for the time being you're just avoiding her, perhaps it'd be better just to let her know how you feel. I mean, you're not accomplishing anything by avoiding her. Avoiding her will more likely than not, only make her want to see you more, etc. etc..Have a nice chat with her. Be straight foward and outright. Don't beat around the bush. Really that's the only way I can think of to handle this situation."

Clothes

"People say I'm always really dressed up...>_> Probably because I refused to wear jeans for the last 5 years of my life until only just recently. Right now I wear jeans and a T-shirt to work. Out side of work, I wear cute skirts and tops with cuter shoes. I'm not very into the entire eclectic movement that's in style right now. Staying far, far away from that. But usually, I try to look nice and I guess I'm usually slightly over dressed >_>. Meh. In the winters I wear almost exclusively Cashmere sweaters.I also have a huge scarf fetish. I'll wear scarves anywhere. I only think that it's slightly unhealthy O_o
I am also willing to sacrifice personal comfort to look cute. Esp when it comes to heels..."
