This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Chef, South Park, and Scientology...
2 years 6 months ago
"In addition to that, someone I knew went in to take a scientology personality test for the heck of it. He came out, and they told him that if he didn't buy their $30 book immediately, he would be dead in less than 6 monthes. Apparently, this completely normal, average guy was secretly desperately on the verge of suicide. So on the the verge of suicide that he didn't even realize he was sad. O_o. I've actually taken a Scientology personality test (out of summer boredom) ; it's very convoluted and designed so that they can diagnose something out of you. I was, from my test results, entirely introverted...again I should seek help immediately.
As for Chef, I adored wednesday night's episode. I esp. loved the part where Kyle makes a speech with the general gist of: "We don't blame Chef for leaving us. Rather we blame that faggoty, gay little club he joined that took him away from us".
I'm just sorry that Issac Hayes turned out to be such a moron...although there is a rumor going around that the church of scientology quit for him. Issac Hayes apparently suffered a stroke around January, and really shouldn't be in the position to quit anything. But then again rumors are rumors."

Can you give up porn for sex?

"I don't think that it's particularily hard for a guy to be able to have sex with somebody. Obviously, teenage boys have some troubles getting sex, but by the time you're in college...most men have no problems finding some chick or another; esp. if all they are after is a one-night stand type thing."

"XD. His show is fun; he really shows you step by step how to do something. Also, I think his sketches are really dorky and cute. Plus his recipes are most excellent (much better than any one else's recipes on Food Network except for perhaps Emeril); he has yet to fail me. I adore the show, but I'm really dorky like he is."

"Iron Chef is cool enough. I adore how stacked in the Iron Chef's favor the original is...esp. since Sekai really doesn't seem like he has a clue what he's doing most of the time. All he ever does is lather on Cavier and turn on the ice cream machine. I do however adore the ostentatious-ness of the Chairman.I'm not such a huge fan of Iron Chef America. The new chairmen is kinda douchey. Also, it's just not as over the top and entertaining as the old show. I do, however, love Alton Brown so I'll watch it for his commentry. Realistically though, the only show I really watch on the Food Network is Alton Brown's Good Eats. Such a good show."

Will you Sacrafice your Happiness, for someone else?
2 years 6 months ago
"No I would never sacrifice my happiness for someone else. That's stupid.Sacrifices are good things if they lead to greater happiness...like for example parents. They sacrifice time, money, and a whole spectrum of other things, but I'd like to think it's because their children bring them greater joy than anything else. If the person you're sacrificing for is making you nothing but miserable; then you're not doing anybody any favors. It's much more admirable to be able to find happiness than to be constantly mopey and depressed because of some stupid "sacrifice". Besides, by being choosing only to be sad, all you're doing is quite selfishly hurting the people who truely care about you."

Can you give up porn for sex?

"A lot of girls retain the feelings that 13thclone conveyed in varying degrees of potence. There are generally feelings of inferiority; although for the life of me I can't think of why. Most women in porn are actually quite unattractive. I think that there is a point where a lot of girls realize and get over the fact that men are horny little bunnies and watch porn and, dare I say it, masturbate. At this point, it becomes more of an issue of how much is too much. It generally all leads back to self-confidence issues and other problems with the relationship. In my personal experiece, the only times I've ever been slightly unhappy at my BF over porn was when I was already mad at him about something else. Women like to fuel their anger with other stuff...it's something that I"m actually working on fixing. Also, I should add that there are plenty of girls who enjoy porn.
Wow. Most guys I know would definately not put up with that kind of logic. Oh geez...In anycase, anything in excess is bad. Mainly, I agree completely with what LeePatekar said. Although I will add that I find it plausible a girl could break up with a guy over porn if the guy perfered watching porn to having sex with her. Or if the guy was constantly trying to model their sex life after porn he watched. Stuff like that is definate grounds for breakup because it's just creepy, and any obsession is bad."

"Never did I say that the books didn't INCORPORATE witchcraft. The book takes place in a school for witchcraft of all things. But promotion and incorperation are two entirely different things. JK Rowling isn't telling children to go practice witchcraft. It's a fantastical setting that provides a backdrop for a very good story.
Children at the age of 11 are able to distinguish between works of fiction and reality. When they see XMen or other superheroes, are children promoted to go out and expose themselvse to danger and fight crime? Or is it more of a crime doesn't pay off message the show is sending? I remember when I was 11, I read fantasy books back then. Never once did it cross my mind that I would want to be a witch when I grew up.
I have no doubt that there is witchcraft references in the books. I simply didn't want you to waste your time and find 18 pages of proof that I'm simply not interested in reading. Because I'm going to read your proof and then I'm going to think to myslef, "you just wasted a lot of time for nothing" because my opinion isn't going to change. The morals and values of HP are good. Children can distinguish between reality and fiction. Since HP's release has there been a mass insurgence of Wiccan groups? Have people suddenly decided to turn Wiccan and ride brooms instead of cars? I don't think so. You're not going to convert me because I can tell the difference between fiction and reality, and I have enough faith in children that they should be able to as well. It's very possible that all that proof that you procure never once crossed a Child's mind. Going through HP, they are much more likely to remember Snape being a nasty little teacher than any of the spells/rituals/symbols that are procured.
You might also have noticed that no where in either miroku444 or myself's post did we doubt there being withcraft symbols. Both of us were saying that it really is a non-issue."

"More people have read it than you would think. It's a fairly popular piece among English classes. I read it when I was a junior in High School although I was surprised to find out that there was a movie.
In anycase, Vonnegaut's work was obviously meant to to dissaude against false idealistic hopes for equality. To show that a world where everone is equal isn't can only be achieved using such extreme measures that in the end everyone is just miserable. The only kind of equality that I personally believe in is equal possibility. That's is it is equally possible for any person to achieve a reasonable amount of success through enough work and determination. I think a better goal to work society towards would be more empasis on self-pride and feeling content/happy with your own life as opposed to constantly comparing it to other people's lives.
As for whether Vonnegauts picture of the future is being realized, I remember reading A Nation Under Therapy by Christina Hoff Sommers about the current ridiculous of political correctness. In the book there were several examples of American Public School systems. It detailed how some schools don't keep score in Athletic Competitions so that the "losing" team wouldn't feel bad. Teachers in some schools are encouraged to use Lilac/Pastel color pens when grading because red is an ugly color. Also instead of the classic game of tag, kids are placed in "friendship circles" where they talk about how they feel in an attempt to make sure that no child feels left out. For any who are interested, a link to the book. It certainly makes for a more polite society where people are completely unable to really take care of themselves. People work best with competition. It's extremely necessary for competition to exist. Competition spurs our most brilliant moves and inventions which in turn increases the standard of living of an entire society. That is why I am a staunch believer that communism/socialism are both impractical and retarded."

"Like Miroku444 already said, please don't. Harry Potter is a FANTASY book. Therefore, it has witchcraft. It's a setting. I don't think JK Rowling is telling anyone to go out and try and cast spells/worship satan/be a pagan. Much like C.S. Lewis wasn't telling anyone to go find an old wardrobe and walk into another world in order to find Jesus. I think people have got to get it into their thick skulls that fantasy novels...as in a type of FICTION...have magic in them. And since there is magic, pagan and witchcraft references aren't entirely a shock now are they? They are simply devices to make the setting seem more plausible. Becuase Harry could go around saying Abra Kadabra all the time, but that would be kinda stupid and kids wouldn't like it very much."

"Gotta say that most counslers/experts would say that a healthy physical relationship is an important part of any relationship. Sex is fun; if it weren't...well we'd be in a whole lot of trouble wouldn't we? Sex can be fun and meaningful at the same time. The two ideas aren't opposite of each other. Any long relationship needs a nice healthy sexual side which both partners agree on...even if it's a mutual agreement to not have sex but to only fool around. In anycase, there's nothing wrong with premarital sex. Personally, I wouldn't marry someone I had never had sex with...I mean, seriously, what if the two of you just aren't compatible?"

Do girls like men who cry????

"It's important that a guy isn't afraid to cry. That said, I'd be seriously turned off by a guy who cried as much as girls tend to do. I mean if a guy starts crying it's fine so long as there is a legit reason... If the guy is bawling over say a disney movie, I'd be kinda worried about the state of the universe."View

"There are many guys who have sex (with their steady GF/wife) and still look at porn. Many couples watch porn together as a way to keep their sex life more entertaining. Also, it's entirely possible that the guy needs gratification more often than his parter is willing to give. Besides, porn is fun and then...esp. outrageous things like Beat Angel Escalayer, which might just cross over into the realm of humor if you consider how seedy the storyline is. ^^
As to why a guy would give up sex for porn...I'm inclined to agree with WordPlay said. I'm sure there are people out there, but I also think that the 18% would change if the people who said they would give up sex for porn were actually faced with the decision."

What do we want and why?

"I can relate completely. The annoying thing is: I'm a EE major, and I definately don't want to be an engineer. I like the subject well enough...but teamwork and designing things = ick. >_< So am I suppose to apply for engineering internships where I will be undoubtably miserable? I think not. Sigh. My only consolation is that I'm 90% sure I'm going into patent law so I can stave off my job search for a little bit."

"@Omnidevil's post. I really don't understand what you're saying. I'm actually quite curious what your point is, but I can't make it out for the life of me. Mainly, I don't get the starbucks bit.Back on topic. I don't think anyone notices growing up and maturing. I mean it's a pretty gradual thing. I turned 20 a couple days back. All of a sudden I was like I'm not a teenager anymore, wow...should I be feeling something? Not really. I'm definately more mature, more socially acceptable, and more sensible than I was at 16, but it isn't an overnight thing. I didn't go to sleep one night, wake up the next day, and suddenly I could take care of myself. As for the meaning of life: it's different for every person. But I think everyone's life meaning should be to pursue their own happiness."

Phree Will?

"Free will is choice. It's the ability to choose your direction in life. In Christain terms, free will is the choice man has to believe in God or not. Predestination/fate is the opposite of free will...although some people say not completely. I'm sure that people who believe in predestination would argue that even though your fate is decided, you are still choosing it...it's just known ahead of time what you will choose. To me this arguement is counterintuitive and doesn't make sense. This probably explains why I'm not presbyterian."View

Harry Potter banned?!

"Harry Potter = evil always amused me to no end. What I always found amusing is that people who condemn Harry Potter on one hand are perfectly capable of raising The Chronicles of Narnia to the highest heights. It's becuase of perception. The Chronicles of Narnia has plenty of talking beasts and magic galore, but since Aslen is a allegory for Jesus and C.S Lewis is a very well known Christian scholar, it's alright. So apparently, magic is fine so long as it's used to promote Christian values. The thing is: Harry Potter promotes loyalty, goodness, friendship, honesty and all that lovely stuff. Hmm...those all seem to coincide with good morality, and Harry I find is a much more loveable hero than Peter from Narnia. My biggest gripe with Narnia was the ultra-good, almost inhuman characters. The fact is that there is nothing wrong with Harry Potter. Children have the ability of distinguishing between reality and fantasy...and even if magic WERE to exist in the world, nothing is inherently evil. It's how you choose to use magic.. much like technology. Perhaps if Harry used super technology as opposed to magic, the books would be widely more acceptable, but no call it by the name "magic" and you're worshipping Satan. ^^;; Also popularilty has a lot to do with it. I don't see anyone banning Philip Pullman's His Dark Material's series...and in that one God is actually evil(or rather he's dying and his successor the Metatron is evil). It's fairly popular, but as pervasive as Harry Potter so no mass bannings for His Dark Materials. My favorite people in this world are of course those Christian fanatics who buy tons of HP books and do mass burnings. With all the severely under-funded charities in this world; they think the best use of their money is buying mass quantites of a harmless children book and burning them. O_o. "

Feminism!?
2 years 7 months ago
"^^;; My favorite aunt is a vice-president at a very high profile financial firm on wall street, and she didn't marry until she was 41. She tried to have a child, but the pressures of the job and her not wanting to quit made her miscarry. So while your mom's statement might seem a little radical...there is some freaky truth behind it. In anycase, my aunt has decided to just not have children - because of the job and also because she's just getting to old for it to be healthy.
For me, I've loving the feminism thing until they get into your face and make try to feed the BS that being a house-wife is a bad thing. True feminism that I can believe in is about choice...that is my Aunt can choose like she did to be a super career woman, or if a woman chooses she can be a house wife and there is nothing wrong or to be ashamed of about that. Being a full time mother is a harder job than most people are willing to give it credit for. ^^ Being a housewife isn't a bad thing as long as it's the woman's choice.
I also find it annoying when feminists get all pissed off when a guy tries to help them lift a heavy suitcase into an overhead compartment, etc... I mean it's just not that big of a deal; they're just trying to help. "
