Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 1 week ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

i still think the bg is too filtered and some places even jagged
C:

Heh... I havn't changed anything yet ^.^
I'm contemplating just trying to brush up a new background -- but where in particular is it too jagged? Or is this just a general feeling?"

Impressive first wall!
I like the oldish brown style and background.
I think maybe get rid of the translucent text copies and just have the one opaque text.
Also, perhaps do something about the green bit of her skirt. It's a bit out of place with the brown of the rest of the wallpaper.
About the extraction, the imanimations tutorial I found to be excellent. Putting a very slight blur on the edges may help to smooth them out. Make sure you have the anti-aliasing options enabled when cutting. It's a little jagged along the hair.

Awsome, thanks for the advice!

its pretty cool.. but its missing someting... but i do like it... nice job on your first.. im still working on my 2nd ^_^

Any idea what it's missing? Do you think the background is too simple? Or is there something else that it needs?"

I think it's pretty, and I love the colours, but I agree that the scan could be cleaned more. I think it's fine without flips though; I dislike flipped images, because often you can tell (from proportions etc) that they're flipped, and they don't look as good. Where you cut out the scans some of the border is gone, you might want to try a feather tool to help you with that ^_^

Can you elaborate on how to use the feather tool? Thanks!"

New attempt

3 years 6 months ago

"I agree with them on the transparency issue. The problem is, when I look at it, my eyes look at the characters and try and focus on them, but they get stuck looking at something that's just perpetually out of focus. Not too appealing, but I think if you solidified them a bit, it should take care of it. Heh, hope that made sense!"

First wall

"Awsome, thanks for the advice! I'm gonna start by re-extracting and cleaning up the image -- using the tutorials from imanimetions.net as a guide. I'll try using just the full opacity text, and see how that one works out. The bowtie (or whatever it is) was part of the scan. I think it's supposed to be holding the girls hair in a ponytail. Check the original image here: http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Sumi-Keiichi/item42291/

The green I think was a problem that came about when I was hueing and desaturating the image to give the entire wall more of a monochrome feel. I'll be starting from scratch with the new extraction, so that should be taken care of as well. I'll leave the characters in the original orientation this time and put them on the right too.

Personally, I like the background, but we can discuss that once the scan is fixed up. Thanks for all the help, I'll post a new image as soon as I've got one!"

First wall

3 years 6 months ago

"My first wall! Picked up the scan from none other then animepaper.net. Cutting out the hair was one giant pain, especially when it was sometime difficult to tell what was gloss, and what was background. Ending up redrawing a few hairs, as well as fattening up the existing outlines, which simply fell into the background.

Speaking of, the background was a photo from the stock exchange that recieve a combination of the filter treatment, a few brushes, and desaturation + hue. Since this is my first wall, there was a lot of touching and retouching. Didn't have much in mind, just going for what looked good.

The font was "Campaign-normal" and just arranged in different positions and opacity.

So? Comments? Criticism is good!

Do you still remember the one who broke your heart for the first time?

3 years 7 months ago

"I definitely remember my first heart break. Also my first girlfriend. I want to say it took me 4 years to stop liking her. It probably wouldn't have taken so long, except for the fact that we stayed best friends even after we broke up. I never really had a chance to take a break and spend time away from her, so the feelings always remained. It wasn't a real harsh break-up, but it was very one sided, and I didn't have the heart to tell her how much she hurt me. Eventually though, I was able to move on, and had a great relationship after that."

Unforgetable moments at your school live

3 years 7 months ago

"Is it any surprise that my happiest moment at school would involve a girl? Probably not, so I'm not gonna tell that story.

In sixth grade, our class took a field trip to another school and each class would present projects to the other. Well when I was presenting, I passed out. I'm pretty sure my legs weren't locked or anything like that, so I still have no idea why I passed out, but I did. Now, you'd think that would be the end of it, but you need to know that the way people pass out on TV, isn't exactly real. Normally, their back will arch, the eyes roll back, and it really doesn't look to different from a seizure. So of course, my teacher freaked out, and when I woke up, I was told the ambulence was coming. And I'm looking around, the entire class is staring at me. Not just mine mind you, but BOTH classes. I try getting up, telling the teacher I'm fine, but she won't let me. All the kids in the class were terrified, it's really funny now that I look back on it. But then, for the next few weeks or so, all the kids in my class were a lot more cautious around me..."

Wanna go to japan?

3 years 7 months ago

"While I don't think I would want to live in Japan, I would love to go over there on a student visa or something of that nature and stay for a month, emersing myself in the culture. The landscape is beautiful, and I've always wanted to learn the culture in a more first-hand experience -- I don't put a lot of faith in anime as far as japanese culture goes, just as I wouldn't trust American TV to be representative of American culture. Sadly, the longest I've been in Japan was a couple hour layover on my way to China, and of course, that means we had no passport and couldn't even leave the airport. But it was a taste, and it definitely makes me want to go back for more!"

Behind in Anime

3 years 7 months ago

"
skywalker6705
I AM there. I habitually obtain, and then immediatly burn off most series I can get my hands on. I have alot on DVD that I have to go and watch/finish. As for watching shows that are still currently on the air, that's trickier. I don't burn things until I have enough for a full DVD disc, or until they're complete. Bleach is good, and the filler episodes at least tie together and form a cohesive story arc. Naruto is alright, but the filler is making me want to go assasinate someone, as it is all 1-3 episode length abuses of established ninja themes in Naruto. "Ok, time for the 457th episode of a shinobi with a problem Naruto can cure by being his normal moronic self... aaaannnd CUT"

I currently have ot finish Fushigi Yuugi, and Stellvia off of the top of my head.

Oh, and watching One Piece one after another ROCKS. (Super behind on that: but intentionaly!)

Wow, I don't even have to do any more typing, you already summed me up perfectly!

I try and keep up with my anime but I often find there just isn't enough time in the day for all of it. There's so much good anime that I want to watch, and only so many hours before school starts again. In some ways, it's nice to just sit and watch through a whole series in one sitting, but I prefer watching episodes as they are aired. It takes me back to the good old days of saturday morning cartoons, where you had to wait a whole week to see the next episode. There's something fun about the waiting in itself that you can miss out on if you fall behind.

On the other hand, some of those cliffhangers drive me mad! ^.^"

Who would you die for?

3 years 7 months ago

"Wow, that's a pretty deep question. I've always stood up for my friends, though never in a life or death situation. The worst scenario I've been in so far couldn't end up worse then a few cuts and bruises. I would love to say that I would give my life for the people closest to me, especially my best friends. I really believe that I would do everything I could to save them, but I honestly don't know if I would just freeze up in that sort of situation. You've opened up a can of worms with this one =p"

Do You Like Asians? *Their culture? Being Friends with 'em?*

3 years 7 months ago

"I'm hearing a lot of sterotyping and generalizations being flung around, and I can't say I really agree with all of it. I live in the pacific northwest (Washington) so we have a high asian population, and I have a pretty hard time generalizing or sterotyping them. Maybe it was just the way I was brought up, but I've never really put any sort of faith in sterotypes.

So do I like Asian people? Yes I have many asian friends, but that doesn't mean I just "like" Asians. It's the same for any race, including my own (caucasian). There are people you like, there are people you don't, it's not something you can just throw a blanket statement on.

Asian culture on the other hand is a different matter. It can easily be defined by food, clothing, music, and any number of things. Asian culture is something I'm very fond of, Japan in particular. I've been to China once, and I hope to head to Japan some day soon. Not only is the food great, but I love the architecture, the music, and most everything about it! Speaking of... I think I'm going to get some teriyaki right now ^.^ -- later!"

Best Music Ever!!!

3 years 10 months ago

"Yuki Kajiura! Did the vast majority of the soundtrack for Noir, Madlax, Tsubasa Chronicles, Mai-HiME, Mai-Otome, as well as a number of songs in .hack//SIGN, .hack//LIMINALITY, Gundam Seed, and Gundam Seed Destiny.

My favorite would be "Wheel of Destiny," a Gundam Seed insert song they played during episode 40"

Tsubasa Chronicles Reservoir

3 years 10 months ago

"Personally, I love any anime with the soundtrack done by Yuki Kajiura =D

It's always reminded me of the Kindgom Hearts for anime. Granted, I havn't seen every anime that's being crossed over, but it's always fun to run into random characters from X or Chobits. At first I was really concerned that they would blow it, as crossovers can often be very reduntant, but by keeping each character separated from their original story, this hasn't been an issue so far.

I've heard some people complain that the series is too slow, and I know one website that actually documents how long the camera will stand still on the same scene. I don't really care about that at all though, when the animation is as beautiful as it is, accompanied by the music, I actually enjoy the long scenes.

Can't wait for season 2!"

Great Series, Poor Endings

3 years 10 months ago

"Spiral - Maybe I'd be more satisfied if I read the manga, but after watching the anime, it didn't explain anything. You go through the whole series waiting for them to tell you the secret, or at least give some kind of hint about it, but it just never comes. So you start watching the last episode, all excited to see them wrap up an entire series. And they didn't even try. I mean, it seemed like they just forgot that they happened to be making the last episode, and then when they came to work the next day, their boss told them they had finished.

Love Hina - Great series, but there's no real ending. As stated above, you go through the whole series expecting some progress, but it just doesn't happen. Luckily the spring and christmas specials make for better closers, but that's not technically part of the original series.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Season 1 - Okay, so it's not the end of the series, but I do expect them to do SOMETHING when they're ending a season. Didn't get anything from the last episode of Tsubasa Chronicle. It was just another episode.

*sigh* I could to this for hours... maybe I'll come back later and do a round 2 :P"
