Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 2 weeks ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

It took me a couple days of experimenting with vectoring, but I think I got it down.

If you vectored this, you wouldn't have those white stuff around the scan. What you did is extract, and you didn't quite do it properly. I learned how to extract from this tutorial. Check it out, it might help.

Also, everything is too...well, lateral. Either too horizontal or too vertical. Try rotating the girl a few degrees and see if it works. And move her to the right a bit, but not quite in the center. See if that works too."

Do Ghosts Exist?

3 years 10 months ago

"
Whoa!that's the scary one,why don't you just move out??

Already did. My family and I moved out of there almost ten years ago, but not because of the ghosts or anything. It was because the house was so old it was close to falling apart. XD

Did your parents encounter that too??

Yep, more often than I have. :p"

hey??how can we grow up in a house that used to be a military clinic/quarter,and believe in ghost?Does the ghost of the DEAD soldier walk around and talk to you?

LOL!!!!!

I grew up listening to conversations about Japanese invasion, wives left behind, sisters turned into comfort women, and other random things. I also grew up listening to the sound of guns being cleaned, screams of agony, and someone scratching/knocking on the walls of my bedroom.

And yes, I did encounter a ghost of a dead soldier. So go LOL all you want. :)"

"Um...are those motion lines I see on the iris? :/ Looks rather odd because the lines are vertical. Go to http://www.n-sane.net/tutorials/crystalcleariris/index.php. You don't necessarily have to follow this tutorial, but it could give you some ideas.

Other than the weird lines on the eye, everything looks great, methinks. ^^

Whats your favourite gun?

4 years 1 month ago

"I like handguns. X3 Good ol' .45 caliber for me. I used to own a 1911, but I had to leave it in the Philippines. Glocks are cool, but the triggers are so long that I drown in my snot before I could fire at my target.

.38 caliber revolvers are nice, too. :D"

Stop my confusion???

"Screen caps and manga scans are okay. You might have to do a lot of painting/reCGing, so that the images' quality would be good enough for a desktop wallpaper. And when describing your work, you will have to mention that your reference is a screencap/manga scan. Give the original artist credit. :)

It's nice to know that you're a programmer. It would have been more convincing if you took your time to spell, though. =/"

"I think Photobucket compressed your file. Try http://www.imageshack.us. The file size limit is 1024KB. If ImageShack still compresses it, then you'll have to compress the file. When you save in Photoshop, use "Save Web As" instead of "Save." Then save at 60-70% quality.

To be quite honest, I don't think this will be accepted in the gallery. You may or may not have put effort into this, but the background looks like something you whipped up in less than 10 minutes. I would advise that you do more than applying filters on your background. Filters aren't bad, but it's not good when you overuse them. Try using stock photos, brushes, and textures. Don't limit yourself to filters. :)"

Extraction questions

4 years 1 month ago

"
Oh, image wand and free-hand selection aren't the best tools for extraction...those are not vector tools. Vector tools give much better quality to the scan and they include the pen tool in Photoshop. With the pen tool, you trace the outline of the scan, then go to the 'Paths' section and click on 'Select'. For a more in-depth tutorial, google 'How to Use Pen Tool in Photoshop'. It's a really great tool that's easy to use and will guarantee you much better results and quality.

This of course applies only if you have Photoshop.

Paint Shop Pro has an equivalent of Photoshop's pen tool, although I've never used it. But it does function like Photoshop's pen tool, so yes, it is possible to vector in PSP. For a good PSP vector-style tutorial, go here.

I hope this helped. :)

EDIT:

About your problem with downsizing, if you meant resizing the image's dimensions, make sure you are resizing in Bicubic mode. That will keep your pixels from doing anything weird. Now if you meant downsizing the image quality, whenever you save as a jpeg, save it only at 60-70% quality. The image quality will still be good, but there will be a large decrease in file size. That would be good for people with slow connections like me. ^^ Paint Shop Pro has great compression tools. If you use Photoshop, use "Save" only if you are saving Bitmaps or PSD's. For jpegs and/or gifs, use "Save For Web" and save at 60-70%."

Y'know I don't think you should shy away from posting stuff like this in the gallery. It looks pretty good to me, and doesn't really need session zero level help.

But isn't it great that she posted here first to see if she can improve it? Really, I admire that. :)

You already know about the issue with Sakura being overlayed. And I'm not too sure about the outline. =/ Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you stroked Sakura at 2px. Why don't you try stroking her at 1px (make sure the outline is in a different layer)? Then duplicate the outline layer, gaussian blur the duplicate at 1.8-2px and set the blending mode of the duplicate to overlay or hard light? I'm not sure if that's going to work. Artists use that technique to smoothen out their line art, so I thought it was worth suggesting. ;)

Also, I think it would be nice if you nudge Sakura to the right a bit, just so she gets a bit more focus. Here is an explanation of how Sakura gets more focus by moving her a bit.

I hope this helped. Your wallpaper looks great. Keep it up. ^^"

It was rejected...

"I don't know what you're trying to achieve here. Did you want a postcard/stamp look on your wallpaper?

I would suggest you get rid of the low-opacity image in the background. Low opacity images as backgrounds tend to show lack of technique/ideas. I would suggest using textures and/or manipulated stock photos for the background instead. Don't be afraid to use more than one texture. Layer different textures and play around with the blending modes.

If you can make the brightly colored scan bigger, please do so, so that it would be easier to focus on it. It would also be nice if you actually do something to the scan, not just make the edges pretty.

I hope this helped."

You can certainly do better than this. =/"

Beauty secrets

"For dark eye circles: cucumbers do NOT work. Use raw potatos. They have the potassium that you need to remove dark eye circles. Bananas would work too, but potatos are less messy. ;)

Before exfoliating, soak yourself in warm water. This will open your pores up. Exfoliate. Rinse with cold water (to close your pores). Plus, the cold water will shock you and make your circulation better. :P

EDIT: Slice a potato, then put the slices on your eyes. For best results, sleep with potatos on your eyes (use an eye mask, or anything to tie those potato slices to your eyes, so it won't go sliding all over the place)."

Math

4 years 2 months ago

"
Does anyone hate maths because of the factor> teacher?

That's usually the case. I was a Math tutor once (my university has this department where students can ask for tutorials from paid student tutors). Most of the students I tutored went to me because they couldn't understand their professors' explanations, so they end up teaching themselves Math, which is difficult for a lot of people. The other students I tutored just disliked their teachers for personal reasons, so that hindered them from learning anything from their teachers. I don't know exactly how that hindered them, but it did."

Which is why, kids, you should keep PSD's of your wallpapers. :)"
