"Thanks to you both for the constructive feedback! I tried to do something a little different with the coloring and brightness. I wanted an "old photograph" feel. Any thoughts?
I'm working on putting this GREAT Yusuke Nakamura artwork into a wall, but I have a problem. I don't have a vectoring program (only Photoshop Elements 4.0), but I think the lines need to be made more consistent. Can anyone suggest a way that I can do this?
Any insight is much appreciated. I'm working on two versions of the wall, and i've also posted the original so you can see where I came from.
Please take a look at my wall if you have a moment and provide constructive criticism. :)
I had this posted in the session zero gallery all week, but no one said anything--which was a bummer. If I could just get other opinions, that would be helpful. I used the scans below to compile the wall.

Red Garden: My first wall

"Hi there!
First of all, I've been watching this anime recently, and is it just me, or is it starting to get annoying? I'm at episode 8 I think. I'm tired of the girls whining... But I love the intro and overall style of it...
ANYWAY!! Haha! I like your idea! The different patterns for the butterflies is a nice touch, but the scan quality is a little fuzzy. The "Red Garden" text looks a bit fuzzy/poor quality as well. The red butterflies have a funny outlining around them too that bothers me a bit.
I'm also never a fan of a lot of white space, unless something really interesting is going on.
Nice job on this overall! Keep it up You've got nice ideas!" View

On the plus side, I do think it's a creative idea, and I also think you did a rock star job of organizing the characters in the wall. The layout is pretty good, but the quailty of scans and all those little details need work. This is a cool idea though! " View

"I have a quick question (and I'm sorry if this is not the appropriate forum, but this looks like it was the most closely related to my issue)...
I have Photoshop Elements 4.0. Is there no pen tool in this program? You have to have a pen tool in order to vector things, right? I don't think I have the ability to do that, as I can't find the pen tool! There's a pencil, and of course, there are brushes... but no pen... Am I missing something?
I haven't read through this entire thread, so I apologize if someone has already suggested the following:
1. The ability to click on the banner, and have it take you directly to whatever wallpaper is being featured. Sometimes, the banner will look very cool and make me curious as to how the entire wall looks, but it's essentially impossible to find the actual wall sometimes. So it would be neat if you could click the banner and have it take you to the actual wall.
2. The ability to edit/delete wall comments you make. Sometimes, in the heat of things, you may say something you don't mean (hee hee). It'd be nice to be able to take things back.
"Thanks so much for your help Three! :) I went ahead and submitted the last version and it was accepted. I'm going to go ahead and delete my first post so they can close the thread. Thanks again! I really appreciate the feedback!!" View

"Thanks for the feedback!
Hmm... I see what you mean. But in order to blend it more, I'd probably have to use some sort of filter or effect... But I don't want to mess with the cleanliness of the scan and background. The characters are supposed to be popped out from against the background, not necessarily apart of it. But at the same time, I don't want it to look like they are going to fall off of the page. lol!
How about this:
I made the brightness/contrast of the scan a little dimmer so that they match the background colors more. I also added fun shadows to the two end characters.
"Haha! Yup! And thanks so so much! Here is the original scan:
Well, I have this problem (or benefit at times I guess haha) of just adding things and adding things when I'm making a wallpaper. I always think "it just needs something more." I made two other versions of this wallpaper before I got to this one.
I did submit it, and it got accepted! Yayee! I totally didn't expect it to either!! When I first started making walls, I would submit them here to session zero and always get lots of criticism. One day a guy just ROASTED me on one of my walls and it really hurt my feelings! Ha! He apologized for it afterward, but I still said forget this place. So I left and me and a friend just made walls for fun and shared them between the two of us. I really liked how this turned out, so I thought I'd try again here, and I guess I've gotten a little better. :)
"This is really nice! Great job for your first time!!
In addition ot what others said above, I notice the scan of the two kids is jagged in some places. Around her right shoulder, and where his hand is in his pocket, especially. I would smooth those out. :)" View

"I like your concept! I think you did a pretty good job extracting the scan too. I can tell you worked really hard on it.
My only thing is the edges of the curtain against the window. It doesn't look as clean as it could be. I would suggest maybe going over the edges, outlining them in the same color (and or texture... I love the copy stamp) as the curtain itself. Right now, it looks jaggedy.
I don't mind the weather being gloomy, but you may want to see how it looks with a bluer sky. It may brighten the whole image up!" View

"Thanks so so much for the feedback and encouragement Doki!! I really appreciate it. People don't seem to really say anything in here. :-(
There is the update. In my mind, I see glow bugs giving off an almost neon green light. So I kept that element, but I added the yellow hue like you suggested. I think it makes them a little softer, which is better (they were outlined in black before. I don't know why I did that... well, I do, but it was stupid thinking on my part. :) ). I duplicated the layer they were on to make them brighter though. Hopefully it doesn't make them too hard.
Here it is without the duplicated layer.
It's softer... maybe unduplicated it better?

Please take a look and provide feedback. I know the brightness of the scan and my brushes contrast somewhat dramatically, but I actually like it that way. I wanted it to be like a peep show. But I know the contrast is probably a problem for you all.
"OK, thanks so much everyone for the great and positive feedback! Here are some updates.
Green Sparkles with Swirly Text1:
White Sparkles with Fancy Text:
White Sparkles with Old Style Script:
All three have more detail in the background, and I have 3 new font options (I think I like the first font best). The last two also have the pillow affect on the images in frames, which I think makes them jump out a little better.
Also, I'm using photoshop, but it's version 4.0, which I know is kind of old (I didn't know that when I bought it! I'm totally clueless about all this). So my program is a lot different than most people's because it's so outdated, and I tried feathering the text, but when I do it, I'm not seeing a difference, so perhaps I'm not doing it right? Plus, the "anti-ailiasing" box is checked! I dunno what to do. :-( I also gave Hagu a 1 pixel outline. I tried giving her a thick one, just to see, and it looked kind of awkward.
Is it getting better at all? Or worse... hopefully not! >.<" View

"Thanks so much for the great feedback! I tried to make all the images manga scans, and I re-did the frams at 100% opacity (I'm not sure why I did it with low opacity in the first place! That was an accident. >.< I also tried to fix the clover.)
Dias: How can I fix the problem with the text? I tried making it bold, but it still kind of looks the same. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by #5: "Stroke the hind image on low opacity to give a more solid outline." I'm sorry, I'm still somewhat new at this. What do you mean?
SisterPrincess: I shrunk all those images down, so hopefully they don't still look stretched. Let me know though! :)
"I really like it! I like the "old photograph" look you gave it! Very nice job.
The trees in the back of the image (behind the character) look kind of odd. They seem like they're cut off at the top or something. Also, I just saved this wall as a JPEG file to my desktop to view it properly, because your photobucket link makes the image too big or something, and it looked kind of pixelated. But when I saved it, the pixelation went away.
Please provide feedback on this wall! :) I should say, please give me constructive criticism, and please try to be somewhat kind in your feedback and avoid saying things like "I just think it's bad overall and you should re-do it."
