This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

Need help with my wallpaper.

"I love the way you did the sky! It's gorgeous! How on earth did you do that?? (Tell me, tell me!)

It seems I'm in the minority, but I don't think the scan looks as good as the sky. Something about the two aren't matching up for me. But I can't put my finger on what it needs or what you should do, so I guess you should just go with it, seeing as everyone else seems fine with it. :-)"

"Hello,

OK, so this is my third attempt at a wall. I tried to create the background on my own from scratch instead of using a real image for a background like I did with the last wall I tried. I wanted to play with photoshop to see what it could do and get better accustomed to it. I tried to clean it up as well, but I kind of feel like it may still be missing something. Like it needs a little something else. Let me know what you think. Be kind, I'm new at this. :-)

The real size is 1024x768.

Thanks so much!"

My First Wallpaper

"I think that's a really good first attempt! Like other's have already said, I'm not over the moon about the colors either. It makes him seem kind of cheesy or something (and we all know that the flame alchemist is not cheesy), but the quality is very well done! :-)"

Well 1st, it looks like your wallpaper got shrunk by PhotoBucket, so that makes it hard to give accurate feedback on things like image quality/cleaning and whatnot. It's a lot better to use http://imageshack.us for your hosting, they don't re-size and they give you easy to use thumbnails.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, this is a really promising wallpaper so far, I bet you'll end up being a very good wallpaper artist. For her fingers, it looks like her index finger is misplaced, from the base of her palm it looks as though her index finger should properly be placed behind and below her middle finger so it only shows a little behind it.

To make things glow, there's a bunch of ways, like...
- "Defuse Glow" (under the distort filters I believe) - use it with the foreground and background colors set to white and play with the intensity.
- Duplicate lower opacity layering - duplicate the layer in front and apply an effect like a radial blur w/zoom option, some other type of blur, or a blind mode or something. Then lower the opacity of the duplicate layer and try a color overlay layer effect.

If you want, you can PM me when you get a new version done.
Hope I could help some n_n

It did shrink the photo, it's actually 1024x768. Here it is through Image Shack, hopefully you can see it more clearly this way:

You're absolutely right about the fingers. I used the copy stamp tool to re-make three of her fingers, (the middle one being the most difficult, obviously lol). Is there any other tool that I can use for things of that nature? I'm thinking there isn't, but again, I'm very new to photoshop. I'll definitly PM you when I've played with it a little more!

Oh! One more thing, does it look like she's holding a showflake to you? I struggled with that. I wanted her to be holding a star, with the light from it kind of illuminating her face. But the bigger I made the star, the more it looked like a huge snow flake to me. lol! And I didn't want her to be holding a "literal" star-shaped stamp either. Then I thought about her holding a planet, but I didn't like that idea.

Thanks so, so much for giving me feedback and for the compliment!"

Is it good enough to submit? Air Wall

"Hmm... it seems like quite a few people are doing the "double image" thing. I wonder why? I never thought to try that. I look at the double image and think, "why are there two of the same picture there?" It seems slightly uneccessary.

I think the maroon border is kind of odd, in particular, it somewhat accentuates the fact that the two character images are off-centered, but I'm kind of thinking you did that on purpose? And the red background could definitely use some cool texture or something! I just look at it and feel like it needs more, you know?

On a positive note, it's very clean looking! And I like how bright the color character is. Very cheery and cute! "

"OK, so I'm a total newbie to this, so you can take this with a grain of salt, but this reminds me of the very first wallpaper I did (which was like yesterday. lol)

After I created it, I came on here to look at other walls. In particular, I looked at a wall called "Fear Not." Absolutely beautiful creation. Anyway, the designer was saying how they used "real-life" images in the background, but used a ton of filters so that it looked more "cartoon-ish" to match Naota (who was being featured in the wall). Then I thought, "OH! That's why my wall sucks!" lol! Not that yours sucks in any way, but the character doesn't blend with the background, you know? It looks like you took a picture of fish, and then put an anime character on top. Which is what I did, except it was a "real-life" picture of a flower and Renton and Eureka. It wasn't "meshing together." That could be why they had concerns with it! :-)

Oh, PS- You did a really great job extracting the character! It's like flawless! "

"Konbanwa mina-san! (Good evening everyone!)

OK, so I bought Photoshop a week ago and this is my second attempt at a wallpaper after getting a little more comfortable using the program. I'm still pretty embarrassed at the horrendous-ness of my first attempt, so that will never see the light of day.

Please tell me what you think!

User posted image

I had to superimpose her fingers and the top part of her head (which had a big hole in it after I extracted her from the scan). The fingers are a little wacky if you look closely at them, but what can you do in this type of situation? If anyone can give me some pointers on this sort of thing, I'd be forever greatful! :) This scan took A LOT of cleaning (there were also a bunch of flower petals flowing across her face, hair and jacket), but I think I did an OK job of cleaning it up.

Also, how do people make things glow in photoshop? I see a lot of wallpapers with that glowing affect, and I wanted to do that with the stars and moon, but I couldn't really figure it out.

Feedback please!! I'm very open to constructive criticism, so if it's a big thing or small thing I need to work on, let me know.

Thank you!! *hugs you all* "

Hey to you too! Again, gomen nasai for the slow response!! (gomen nasai = I'm sorry)

For stuff like that, it's probably best to check out the FAQ. That's how I found out about submitting wallpapers and what not. LINKAGE!! http://www.animepaper.net/faq/wallpapers Go there and it essentially gives you a complete rundown of what you have to do to submit your own paper. :-) "

how do i put a picture in my profile?

Hi! Sorry for the slow response time. It took me a second to figure out the avatar situation as well. If you want to add an avatar, click "Profile" which is in the toolbar right underneath the Anime Paper masthead-- third option from the right.

After that, the profile page should pop up and you'll see options listed down the left side. Pick the one that says "Avatar" and there you can upload a photo from your files! You have to literally make the picture itty bitty though, just FYI. You can also make your sig there and do all that other cool stuff to personalize your profile. Hope that helps!

"I think your wall looks good! But I'm a hardcore novice, so my opinion doesn't really hold that much weight. :-) How many walls have you made? Is this the first?

I got bored and tried to make one once. I really like the simple ones, so I tried my hand and came up with this:

I'd never submit it anywhere, (especially not here! lol), but I do use it for my wallpaper from time to time."

Some good Jazz

ummm... bands you guys are naming are a bit more modern...
I like Buddy Rich Band, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Cherry Poppin Daddies, ... yeah... these artists are more...old fashioned? They play trumpet and sax and are a more traditional type of jazz although I may be using incorrect terms. Oh.. Stanley Jordan and Tal Farlow are really good but that is if your into jazz guitar like me..
hope that helps.

Nice list! I like a lot of the oldies as well. I'd like to add to this list John Coltrane and as someone mentioned above Stan Getz. They're styles are very mellow and groovy, very sexy. I really like Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" it has this song called Blue in Green on it that just melts me away. lol! Miles is great... except, someone recently told me that he was a wife beater, and I don't know if that's true, but if it is, that definitely makes me like him a lot less."

"I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post in a single, main thread dedicated to introductions or start one for myself... however, it seems as though everyone else is playing it solo, so, hey, when in Rome... If I am in the wrongness, please accept my humble apologies! *bows* Gomen Nasai :( *is learning Japanese and trying to use it at every opportunity* lol

I'm very happy to be here! The site set-up is very classy! Clean, neat, well organized... all the ingredients necessary for a quality message board! I found this site via "googling" for images of mr. Kon from Bleach. Then I joined and rabidly started downloaded wallpapers! Lo and behold, I get a message calling me a leech! (well I never!?) Anywho, I have learned the error of my ways, reviewed the FAQ and fully intend on following the rules hence forth.

Now that I've given you my life story (lol!), thank you for having me! Dozo yoroshiku *bows* (pleased to meet you!) :)"

Do you BUY or DOWNLOAD your manga?

2 years 3 months ago

"I'd rather buy if I can. It doesn't hurt to buy one volume just to try it out, and if I like it, it's worth buying the entire series. The only time I'll download is when/if chapters haven't been released in the official manga yet. Even still, when the chapters are released, I'll buy the volume, even though I've already read them.

There's just something about having the offical, hard copy in your hands, accessible whenever you want it. Plus, like a lot of you have already said, it stinks to sit in front of a computer and read scans all day. And of course there's the moralistic view of supporting the artist and what not. I agree with that as well. I'll pay for good work."
