This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Pretty stupid scenario. The kids need a parent no matter how you look at it, and giving them the cash wont help their bigger problems. So I think that many people are right to say they will make sure that a state-run child services program will take care of them and keep the cash.

So, lets say that you have gotten 20k and in the time that you were waiting for it to clear at the police station, you find out that your aunt's transmission blew on her car. She really depends on her transportation for her livlihood, and there is no way she can afford a new car. (when your transmission blows, you may as well buy a new car, as they tend to be more expensive than the car is worth in most cases) Do you help her out by placing a down payment on a car for a slightly-distant relative? Or do you buy your significant other the diamond ring that you had planned on buying?

That is much more confusing and tougher decision to make. Anyways, if you are going to post another "pet-me-on-the-head-cuz-im-good" post, think of a good one."

Completely Free MMORPG

1 year 10 months ago

"Some news for us gamers at Animepaper that was new to me. I bought Anarchy Online when it first came out, early 2000's. I quit the game after about a month mainly because of the horrible lag that seemed all server-side. Anyways, I put it back on my hard drive and decided to play it again. I really liked the game at the time, and didnt really get to play much of it. It felt like one of those games that I own but never beat (which bothers me), unlike a few other MMO's where I got to the end-game content and was content to call it quits.

Well, I discovered Anarchy Online is offering free subscriptions! You can play from whenever you sign up, til 2008! (So basically til you decide to quit) You have full access to the original game as well as one expansion. I made a free account to go with my subscription one just to have a mule to pass off my stuff between characters. You dont even need a credit card, just an email address. The game is made by Funcom, so you can download the game from their website. If you get the Bit Torrent icon (green swirl) make sure you have Bit Torrent installed and running when you double click it in order for it to download properly.

I know I have read of a lot of people who quit MMO's because of lack of funds. I would reccomend trying this one out. Gameplay has been really entertainng, and it is really fun to fly around in cool vehicles and use submachineguns, shotguns, and assault rifles in a MMO. I was getting tired of the horse, armor, and sword kinda RPGs. There is magic too, but it is explained as nano-technology to put it in line with the game's sci-fi nature. The graphics definitely aren't cutting edge anymore, but that may be preferrable for those who dont have super-gaming rigs. I have been playing for a week, on Rubi-Ka 1 server. Name is Christabelle, a martial artist of course :P Anyhow, if anyone decides to give it a whirl, feel free to send me a tell for whatever reason :)"

Capital Punishment.

1 year 11 months ago

"I believe in capital punishment, but I hate the appeals proccess of our courts. I think that if someone is sentenced to death, they deserve an appeal, and it should take no longer than 6 months. I think the death sentence does not serve as a deterrent, because many people kill in the heat of the moment and thinking irrationally. Or others kill with the hope that they aren't caught. But I do see capital punishment as a way to get the most menacing and immoral people off of this planet for good, and not soaking up tax dollars. Unfortunately, with the way that the court systems work at this time, the trial and appeals proccess is comparable to keeping the inmate jailed for life, in terms of cost. That needs to be corrected. How do I feel justified saying that it is ok for a court to decide wether a person lives or dies? Well, how can people say a rabid dog needs to be killed? Why does it need to be killed? Because it is a direct menace to humans. Well the same applies to people in my book. I don't think that many cases warrant the death penalty though. I would reserve it for only the cases where an individual murdered more than one individual and were proven guilty beyond doubt. Or in the case of a career criminal killing someone."

Artistic Career?

1 year 11 months ago

"While I have taken art classes at both high school and college levels, I don't have a real interest to pursue it professionally. I am humble enough to know that I lack that certain something called natural genius. This is from seeing many other aspiring artists' works and having the opportunity to work alongside and critique them. I can do a pretty good job, but I feel that it lacks that element to propel it to the next level. Plus, it takes me many hours of work to demonstrate what a good artist can convey with just a few simple lines.

I still like to doodle on the side when talking on the phone though :) I also collect art from images on the internet from many artists of all genres. I can offer basic critique on pieces with some astute observations at times, and most importantly, I know what I like. You know the complicated pieces that people think they should like because it seems over their head? Well, I can get past the feeling and truly look to see if I like the piece and if it works for me."

The Wrost Ending Of All Time

1 year 11 months ago

"I didn't like the way that Peacemaker Kurogane ended. For one, I'm a bit biased to begin with since I love the way that Rurouni Kenshin romanticized Kawakami Gensai and admire the Choshu clan from that slanted perspective. So I don't like the Shinsengumi for starters. But anyways, at the end of Peacemaker Kurogane, there are a few significant of loose ends, like Suzu. Not to mention the link-arms-and-dance kind of ending. It's kinda disgusting that none of the significant "goodie characters" died."

Do you do any extreme sports?

1 year 11 months ago

"I don't anymore because...well I lost my skates and haven't devoted more money into a new pair. A dean in college asked me for them because he was going to take them into the closest city and get new wheels and bearings for me, but he ended up leaving the college and moving for law school. Once you have a pimp anything, it's hard to settle for less and get a cheap one. (Bikes, skates, food, even clothes)

My last set was free, since I was sponsored by Roces, an in-line skating company. These skates were nice because they were all-around skates. Metal frame that took standard sized wheels, grind plates, as well as a hard boot. That means they were good for slalom, stair-riding, grinding, and even speed skating. I really beat the hell out of them too, heh. I didn't have a full sponsorship, but it was enough to get a free pair of skates (about $400), some free gear, and a great discount at many skate shops.

I didn't go to large competitions, such as X-games. Those guys are way beyond my ability. But I liked to go to very public places and go crazy, riding large sets of stairs, flying down parking garage ramps and skitching on cars, etc with a group of friends. So I guess my job was just to get lots of public exposure, which I did naturally just having fun. It was great. Some of the most memorable moments I have are completely blowing away these idiots who showed up to the IBC night skates wearing bike helmets, spandex, and 5-wheel speed skates. Here I was with long jean shorts, wallet-chain, trick skates, and sleeveless shirts smoking those fools, heh. (IBC night skates were when about 50 skaters from all backgrounds and ages would meet up and skate a huge route plotted all across Boston) I was considering getting into Parkour. Animepaper senior member Omnidevil is into that, and got me interested. But I haven't begun anything serious in that direction yet, though."

Addicted to Drugs

1 year 11 months ago

"Well, I think it is important to point out that drug addiction can lead to serious problems, if drug abuse is the heart of the issue. But typically, there is a deeper issue going on that drugs help that individual escape from. I don't know what level of narcotics you are talking about here, but if it is simply weed, I honestly don't think there is a dramatic issue. "Drugs" usually have people acting shocked and leaning forward in anticipation and indignation, but that is mainly due to word association with "crack", "oxycontin", "meth" and "heroin." And for those that haven't had the experience of trying and deciding for themselves, weed is not the same as those other drugs by a long shot. I haven't done the more hardcore drugs, but used to sell a few of them as a teen and I can tell you that they aren't even close.

I'd like to say that I used to smoke and deal with weight as a teenf or many many years. I haven't smoked or been around weed in the last few years, but that is because I simply grew tired of it and realized I wasn't having as much fun. To be honest, it serves the same purpose as alcohol (legal), but attracts a different crowd. But the bottom line is that you can try all you want, walk away, and even come back. It isn't a life-crippling thing. The reasoning behind it is the more critical factor. An individual can hide away playing video games all day and stay in their room, they don't have to form an addiction to just drugs to escape.

But semantics aside, drug use should make an individual have fun, and people should be having a good time if it is truly being used recreationaly. Abuse is a completely different story, and you should seek to understand their deeper issues rather than the one you can readily snatch up and do some finger waggling over. That would be the more direct way to help them, though not as immediately self-gratifying. People all over use drugs, it just so happens that the majority of them are prescribed by doctors and shrinks, if you can afford one. Which I have mixed emotions over."

I think you should get a hair cut like like a lake like a lake, with big like tall trees on the sides and cows like eating the tall like green like grass. That be like so like cool.

ROFL. Yeah, I was gonna make a silly suggestion but decided to pass. But I think I will now that I have been bolstered by the *gat-meister. You know what I would suggest? Go with a late 80's-early 90s high top fade. It isn't too "Asian", but you know that urban culture tends to catch on late in other countries. So just get out the hair pick and the mousse, and you will be stylin' my friend! People will start re-catching on real quick!

Dracula

1 year 11 months ago

"I read a book about Vlad the Impaler when I was a teen. He was a pretty ruthless guy. Some of the things that I remember:

When a group of guys (I think Jewish) were visiting his court as diplomats, he was annoyed that they did not remove their caps from their heads. They informed him that it was customary garb and they could not remove them. He responded something to the effect, "Well by all means, I would not want to intefere with your culture!" So he had them nailed to the guys' heads.

During an invasion by an opposing army, Vlad crucified men, women, and children and posted them all along the roads leading into the town proper. The invading army were extremely sickened by this sight, and lost the heart to proceed.

Vlad threw a feast for all the elderly, crippled and poor in his town. He held the feast within a church. Once all the "guests of honor" were indoors, he had the doors barred and burned the place to the ground.

While a villian in every sense of the word, Vlad the Impaler held his (fiefdom?) against all odds, repelling massive forces through viciousness and ruthlessness. He is honored and has a statue in Austria.

I remember more about him, including him being a polical prisoner when he was a child and taught by the original "Assasins" who were called so for being hashish eaters. But I won't go on and on, especially since I'm not so sharp on the subject anymore having read about it almost 14 years ago."

Taking Over the World

1 year 11 months ago

"There is really ony one way to truly take over the world. Eliminate anyone who's ideals go aganst your own, because they will sow the seeds of rebellion. So in the beginning, you will have to form corrupt alliances with major powers with similar ideaologies, and then start wiping out the other nations that would cause snags later down the line. There should be no grey here. Invest heavily in technology that would have higher chances of intercepting retaliatory nuclear strikes and then just set a date to carpet bomb the world. That is the only way to truly rule the world and bring the the entire human polulace under one flag.

There is probably only one other way to accomplish this:

Blind-Justice
If i could i would broadcast the naruto filler episodes all over the world again and again until they gave into my demands.

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

1 year 11 months ago

"The times we live in are funny. I usually referred to these types of things as idiosyncrasies. Peculiar set of behaviour that marks an individual. I think it's funny on how there are clinical names for just about every kind of action. One day it was crappy out (raining hard), and so I decided to skip another day of laundry. To me, I was being just plain old lazy, but I picked up the newspaper the next day and read that people were suffering from seasonal temperament disorder. Yeah...thats what was going on with me. Uhh, I had seasonal...whatchamacallit.

I have a friend who is uncommonly tidy. In his house, you HAVE to use a coaster if you have a drink, or thats your ass! He also likes to make all kinds of rules outside of the games we play to make them more "orderly". For example, in Tekken 3 we had to let each other get up off the ground, rather than rushing right in and kicking them across the screen. If you lit a glass bowl of weed by torching the top, you'd probably get yelled at too, lol. You had to be considerate and leave a bit of "green" on top for a few people. This was all pretty funny to me, and even annoying at times. But it helped make him one of my favorite and unique friends."

Your Ideal Planet

1 year 11 months ago

"My ideal planet? Hmm, this is a little complex, since I would want to map out things such as types of governments, etc. My planet would be highly reminiscent of Earth, but I would make certain adjustments. But just giving a rough sketch, here we go:

Landscape: Identical to Earth's terrain. Varied and expansive.
Population: Typical fare, but also including rare mythological creatures. From unicorns, fairies, dryads, dwarves, to dragons, demons, shapeshifters, minotaurs, etc.
Technology: Bicycles are a popular form of travel, as well as motorized bikes, which is a new invention gaining polularity with the youth. Available are headsets, video games, supercomputers. Guns are around, but highly frowned upon by the general populace, through religious belief. Weapons of mass destruction do not exist yet, though the time setting is appropriate for it. It because of afore-mentioned religious principles that consistently stymie the growth of such fields. Various radical sects would oppose anyone thinking to mass-produce weapons of a cowardly nature.
Economy: Healthy competition between various races: Elves are the forerunners in the granola and outdoors'ee kinda things, whereas gnomes have the advantage in the technology industry. Dwarves produce materials needed within city expansion such as steel girders for skyscrapers.

Well, I just got my dinner so I will wrap this up by saying that there is a LOT more I could (and would like to) write about concerning this world of mine. Maybe in a book, hmm...

"When changing things such as avatars, allow some time to pass before you anticipate the chages to be updated. I'm not sure of this length of time, but I know that picture-based changes take longer than simple text updates, which take place almost immediately. I update my avatar on a regular basis, and after I check back a couple hours after submitting it, it is up and going just fine."

I have a simple screensaver that randomly shows pictures in the directory that I set up so that I can always randomly view the works that I collect. If you find yourself really liking some of the same artists that I do or want to know of more of my tastes or resources, PM me. Or PM me to turn me on to new artists, I'm always happy to see new styles!"

Nice accomplishment!

1 year 11 months ago

"Here is a little thread to post one or two things that you are particularly happy about that you have done. Now some people can post things like how they finished hiking a challenging trail, became a Rhodes Scholar, slept with that girl after meeting her only 15 minutes before last call, patched their bike tire all by themselves, or became a Zen master with just the help of a phamplet! It can, but doesn't have to be an earth-shattering personal accomplishment. Simple things are ok, as well as the really respectable acheived life goals. Feel free to share either and lets get to know what an amazing community of people we have here at Animepaper!

I am really proud of the fact that I went grocery shopping today! I am a hardcore lazy bachelor, and am infamous for eating out most nights. I had not gone "grocery shopping" in years, probably since I last had a girlfriend who cooked! My refridgerator is full of just beer and condiments on a typical day. But I am really enforcing a strict budget for myself and plan to cook more often. Nothing elaborate mind you, but just simple cost efficient food that should taste good. So I went grocery shopping tonight and came back with a LOT of food and I only spent $50!! Thats amazing for me because it should last me about a week, and I usually spend about $20 a day on food! ($7 lunch, $10 dinner and a coffee) I'm so happy, as a matter of fact, I'm going to go and open my fridge right now and bask in the glory of all my food!"

When do you use vocabulary?

1 year 11 months ago

"I tend to use whatever words come to mind, without much thought. I have noticed that I unconsciously change my speech depending on my company though. For example, if I am hanging out with some of my old gangster friends or someone I am really comfortable around, my speech becomes much rougher. I tend to use profane expletives and put my crude humor to work. But outside of that kind of situation, I speak in a very concise and educated manner. I have an English degree that I am proud of and I want people to know that they are dealing with an intelligent man. I don't go out of my way to use uncommon words because that is just plain stupid. Rather, I formed the habit of supplementing some words with familiar, but typically read words. I do this because I like saying things perfectly and exact. I honestly believe that the person who swears and uses f*ck on a regular basis just does not have the words to accurately express what is on their mind."

Tekken!

1 year 11 months ago

"Man, I love Tekken. I started platying at Tekken 3, and stopped playing at Tekken 3. I'm originally a Street Fighter player, of which I was a very good player. I even have a tattoo of a Street Fighter character on my bicep. Look on my page for a pic. In Tekken 3, I never found a console equal. I suppose it's because all of my friends played and we were all very competitive about it.

My favorite player is Paul Phoenix for several reasons, though I can use almost all the characters to an extreme level. He has a lot of bone-breaking combinations, which match my real-life fighting preferences exactly. No show-off flashy moves, just some serious hits that are either for devastating damage or for small jabs to interrupt you. I knew the string combos, but never passed the 5th hit or so against a RL opponent due to it being a jaw-breaker already by that point. My favorite cheap player is either Gon or the Professor. I tend to whip those guys out only if my opponent brings out Tiger.

I never played Tekken after part 3, probably because I never bought another console after the original Playstation. Hell, I whipped so much butt that I had to intentionally lose on occasion, just to keep people interested, lol."
