Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 2 weeks ago

After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

"Dare I start with saying that I love your signature? lol, it's got quite a nice flow... *jealous*

anywho.. The image is quite nice, has quite a painterly look (which is often not the case for anime, which tends to be blocked with black outlines). Very beautiful and creates quite a wonderfuly dark/seductive feel. Although my only complaint is that the flower (even though you said you had a lot of trouble with it) looks so flat, almost like paper.. :/ and the edges of the hair at the neck seem too sharp (it looks good at the forehead b/c the face has much more detail), but focus is blurred and more general at the neck, so I feel that maybe the hair would look better if the hair was a bit softened there...

But very lovely work!"

"You certaintly are a newb, but most people start out that way when it comes to drawing. A drawing class will only do so much if you want to only draw in a chibi or anime style (since that style can GREATLY differ from the realistic) some advice I would give is...
1- COPY (via gridding). even though copying isn't always seen as good, it's great to begin with and the technique of "gridding" --which you can look up online-- is a great way. Here you will be forced to look at the small details of what you're drawing, draw in proportion, and get the satisfaction of a beautiful picture if the you follow the technique properly. It will get you used to the natural style of anime- it's proportions, flow, and heightens your sense of detail.
2-in the first picture the eyes aren't the same size, and that's a good place to start fixing it. In the clothing, you have lines drawn for the "folds" of the fabric. But you should think about your own clothes when you wear them, you'll notice that the "folds" are in a different place then where you've drawn them. Even for drawing in chibi-form, looking at the human form can help... in the second picture, the torso seems too long for a chibi (and the arms too long...)

hope that helps, b/c it really is practice and knowledge of styles that will really help in the long run :)"

"Just like everyone else said .. very nice.. beautiful

i think that the coloring is very nice.. very soothing and the look of water is very nice.. i find that hard to duplicate.. the only thing that kinda bugs me is the arm on the right side.. it seems.. odd? like the bottom half is kinda too thin or something.. and since the hand is hiding in the fold of the dress it seems a little like you're hiding it b/c you can't draw a hand rather then it being on purpose.. lol.. also the eyelashes are looking a bit more "furry" then .. lashy to me.. lol..

but still.. very beautiful and i love it.. and surely better then my digital paintings! lol

p.s. just thought i'd throw out that you felt that possibly using the title "dream" is so overused.. but you can also say the very same thing about feathers :P especially b/c feathers like that wouldn't be seen while you're in the ocean.. and with that thought, you may brainstorm on a more integrated idea that can invoke the same thing that floating feathers do, but more unique. :)"

"You always make very nice work. I'm always impressed with your skills

The coloring is very nice, the shading and stuff seems almost ethereal (with your color choice and flowing dress). I just wish that the girl in the foreground had a bit more going on in her pose. her right arm is out, but that isn't doing much for me, i feel like if an arm is going to be away from the body for no reason, it would be the other since the "flowing"is in that direction... ((altho this way fills up the empty space)) but I feel that with your skill you could do it much more efficiently. Like including the necklace that's in your first sketch. Also the woman in the background, her hand seems very akwardly placed upon her breast right now... very constricted looking while the rest of her has such a beautiful flow and serenity.

Granted you're also not completely done, but Maybe a little more depth in the tie, it seems very "stiff" and it would be beautiful to get some really nice details on the lace!

love your stuff :)"

Pacifica's Doujinshi

"Nice work! Though that's quite a few pics to look at all at once. LOL

1.is very nice, proportional, I like the bits of added color. The shading isn't bad either
2. here i think the proportions have gotten off (the face, neck, hand, ear). The hair seems to be looking very "flat" as well. but the shading in the outfit is very nice. I would like some light shading in the white areas of clothing like in the first
3.the body itself is not badly proportioned, although the hands need work. Here the top of the hair seems too short and her eyes maybe a tad too high or large.
4. VERY CUTE. Althogh I know it's her angle that is determining the different eye shape, but I feel like it just looks like a completely different eye shape, rather then the same eye just in perspective. (maybe b/c the pupils are different sizes). And move the mouth a tad to the right (so that it's actually b/t the eyes) and that would be it on this one!
5. Nice. I would just thicken up the right arm a tad, it's looking a bit TOO thin. and I don't think you'd see part of the hand there. usually the hand does down to the mid-thigh, so here her arm may be too short. and those boobs are looking HUGE, i would consider making her hips a TAD wiper so it won't look as jarring ((unless that's what you're going for of course))
6.this is proportionally very nice ((i would lower the eyes and brow a tad)).. and give a bit better shading perhaps
7. seems her that the right side of the face seems to have deviated a bit. but is nice other wise
8. The eye here is a bit too high. In most works, the eye is "around" the same area as where the nose connects to the face
9.very nice perspective here. The body proportions are pretty good. but the breast that is more "forward" should look a bit bigger since it's "closer" to the viewer. The eyes on the face almost seem to be "sliding off" into her hair. making the right eye a little smaller and moving the eyes/nose/mouth area all to the left some would help that up :) Nice shading here though
10. this is nice. I think the eyes are a little too far apart. The body seems too thick, i would thin it out from the back, closer to the thickness of where her armpit is.

anyway.. nice lot of work. I like the pieces in color. you should do some more with the mix of the b&w and bits of color. I'd also encourage you to try other mediums too. :)"

Random Musings of the Pencil

2 years 6 months ago

"Well.. on the first picture, you should (like the earlier crit) use your own face as a basis, and then go from there. I think the ear is a bit too small and low. Also, since she's not completely facing forward, the eye and brow on the left side should be a tad smaller then the one on the right. Once you do that, the face won't seem so "flat".

I like the second one a lot more. Very cute, the face is very nice :) Definitely the arms and hands need to be worked on. Just like the others have said, the arms are too thin and the hands are too small. As for the hand size, look at your own hand compared to the size of your face, and that may help you determine in the picture around how big the hands should be. Also don't forget the girl's wrists, if feels like it's going straight from hands to lower-arm. Then the upper arm is far too long in comparison with the lower-arm. Look at your own arm when you go to touch your shoulder.. you'll find that your upper arm is shorter then your lower arm (if you include your hand), that will help the proportions a lot i think.

and maybe it's just me... but i feel like the breasts (or at least the bottom curve of them) in each picture are a tad too high. lol.

hope that helps!"

"As sketches, they're just fine. The first one, Im guessing he has baggy pants? but the only thing, is that since you enjoy such tall characters, you better consider what they're wearing. Most overly tall characters are VERY slim in the arms and legs so that their heads don't look too unproportional or small in comparison. It may also help if his head was more "long" rather then short and wide.

I do like the second. he looks angry.. which makes me wonder if he is attempting to choke himself? O_o.. 2 things to think about with the tie. the lines b/t the hand and tie's knot are straight, which means that he's pulling the tie and it's taunt, except that the knot is not being raised to his neck and just sits gently against his chest. if he's just "holding it up", then there should be some slack in the tie, and the lines b/t the knot and hand should have a slight curve to show he's not holding it taunt."

"Very nice work. :) Very true that the outline should probably be a bolder black (preferably with a pen so the edges are cleaner).

I would also consider applying some darker shading, it kinda feels like the color is only a "base" but with a couple more layers of color, this piece will REALLY start to have some dimension!!

very nice tho a lot of people can't draw on a large scale :)"

When was youre first real kiss???

"My first kiss was kinda retarded.. LOL

The guy I was dating in my junior year of highschool and I was driving him home ((he was a couple years younger then me)) and he leaned over to kiss me and I kinda freaked out and backed away. We chatted a bit and then finally i was like "ok" and leaned over to kiss him... It was quick and not very awesome. Especially b/c he got kinda mad b/c "he" wasn't the one to kiss "me"! (and instead I had been the one to kiss him).. HAHA..

"Talk about some seemingly very original stuff.. and odd at that! lol but nice none-the-less

my favorite thing is the typography done on each one! you draw with such clean and straight lines, and the type is just what stands out to me as something very graphic and great! you have very clean drawing lines which I am certainly envious of! (great for making coloring books ;P lol)

the perspective on the first, and proportions on the second one are pretty nice, but the last one I think many of the proportions have gotten kinda off or seem a little "weird".. ((tho i love the broken fast-food locations in the bg, very nice))

A Little Artwork From my Novel

2 years 10 months ago

"Being pelted by toasters may be a small price to pay if you're quite an amazing colorist! lol

but it would be nice to see them in a full body pose, versus the amount that's being shown now... it feels to me like their torsos are too long (though that could be their clothing) in which case if it's the clothing, do you want it to be "loose" or more fitting? ((if there's a lot of action, i always feel like the characters --like hand to hand fighting-- there is often a more fitting outfit, versus a large cloak or something lol, so the viewer can appreciate their movements and body forms more :P but of course this depends a lot of the context of the characters and story))

are they supposed to be somewhat "yin and yang"? b/c they seem to have many opposite attributes ... also are they supposed to look so closely alike? they seems almost like opposite-colored twins! lol, maybe try to accentuate their differences if they aren't supposed to be so closely related (like different shapes eyes, mouths, slightly different body shapes, nose... and of course colors of skin and eyes--if it were in color--)

would like to see some more!"

Luna's art III

"The positive thing about working with such.. possibly poopy pencils.. is that you get such interesting lines that you can see where you can see what direction you were coloring in.. and those lines are very smooth and consistent, which i think gives the pictures more personality and feelings.. I really like the shading of the face, subtle, but the lips and eye makes it much more intense!

I think there could be more shading or something in the hair to create some more depth, and in the "fur"(?) and green part of the clothing.. that area looks very "flat" to me in comparison with the rest..

p.s nothing wrong with working with poopy materials (whether it be your drawing surface, or pencils). As a fact, I know that many illustrators will use items such as pieces of scotch tape then putting a oil paint glaze over top, and it gives such an interesting effect (and yet is SO low budget!) though, upgrading can be good to help preserve a piece over time (acid-free paper, and acid-free pencils.. or light-fast pencils), which is becoming less needed since a simple scan can allow your piece to "live forever"... then higher graded materials often have a better color selection, colors also sometimes seem to "sit" better on certain papers that hold more color, etc... and sometimes it's the cheapest stuff that works best! lol, it's all about what you wanna use and the look you're trying to achieve (and what you can afford.. lol)"

"I do agree on the comments made above me.. the image has very little dimension throughout it, you should try using more pressure at the darkest areas and add a few more levels of gradation. if you have trouble adding more pressure to achieve a darker look, then use a softer pencil, an ebony pencil, or use the crosshatching technique (tho crosshatching creates a texture that isn't always what's wanted)

very cute tho! i hope to see some more :)"

"The first 2 are very nice designs... i would love the see the second one cleaned up and inked or lined in photoshop!

i love the 4th image. though i feel like her stomach looks a bit too round like she's slightly pregnant.. and her bend knee seems a tad too thick.. i love the details on her shirt and bow, seems like it loses all details on the bottom extended leg. maybe put some shading on the white part around her leg so that way there's some more consistency in the pic

great work tho :)"

"Nice picture. unless it was the style you were going for, the sketchy lines are a bit distracting instead of having smooth lines. the silver/black hand is very nicely shaded, it would be nice if the other arm and her top was shaded just as nice.
I do agree that the torsos are a bit short, and i feel like there's something slightly off with the guy's head.. like it's slightly too large..

but great work.. can't wait to see the next one.."

"Very beautiful piece..i especially like the icon that's on the jacket, it definitely looks "metallic and reflective" on your digital piece.

i think the eyebrows could be a bit thicker, or more "hairlike (versus now it kinda has that "used a pencil to draw on the eyebrows". then i think the face needs a light shade of red/pink on the edges to give it more dimension.

overall it's really nice! so close to the original :)"

"Very nice photo pic.. i particularly like the eyes. the downside i think is that the outlines for him are all very "sketchy" and not very smooth.

are you using only a mouse to draw or a wacom? if you're using a mouse, it's very good for the technique, but i agree with the others that ((if you're using a mouse)) then maybe you should sketch it first then scan and color it within photoshop.

good work tho :)"

"LOL.. I LOVE the style!
My hair at one point was quite cute, and I'm gonna get it recut so it's all fun and cute again. But the only thing with it is that I cannot really style myself the same. ROFL. I'm not quite sure of the hidden rules of layering what clothes/colors/patterns where it's cool and not just retarded.

I'm at an design school, so I could get away with it to a degree... I just don't have enough things or knowledge to pull it off.. ((plus I'm tall, and sometimes I feel like i should be shorter b/c it'd be cuter XD))"

Why do people Bash Religion?

3 years 2 months ago

"As you mentioned those witnesses that come to your door and basically lecture me on how jesus loves me and I'm going to hell if I don't change >.< While I know it's part of their religion to try to save the souls of others, it is SOOO annoying and they cannot take a hint >.< Even when I say I'm not interested, or even listen for a while.. they do not leave one alone and will continue to follow me as I try to wash my car in the driveway until I finally just walk into my home since they cannot take a hint... ((but it's not just religious people.. it's the same with those people on the street getting me to try to listen to them petition something))
So I think, at least with me, that maybe a somewhat hateful thing may come out b/c of the fact that I tend to like to have my personal space.. and people (religious or not) invading that space without permission can cause them to go crazy >.<.

But in most cases, it's usually insecurity and just plain rudeness.. >.< ((tho i guess depending on the context where the person said "may god have mercy on your soul" that seems WAAAYY overdoing it, and seemingly rude in itself... in which case it could just be him attacking the artist, and the guy who made the "jesus banger" comment just trying to attack him b/c he was being mean to the artist O.o??))"

The Latest on Harry Potter

oahc
I hope the director in the next harry Potter movie READS the book and then direct the movie according to the book so not everything is left out for example the lastest move Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is left so much out so if you never read the book you probably wont understand the point of the story.

They always read the book. The movie was over 2 hours long, and let's face it- they think they are catering to kids mostly, and kids won't sit through a 6 hour movie. When was the last time you heard of a 10 year old watching Gone with the Wind? They did leave a lot out of GoF, and Azkaban.. but they didn't have much choice. For a brief time, Warner Brothers concidered splitting Gof into two films, but they found it wouldn't be feesable. And let's not forget- they are working agaist some biological clocks. Movie 6 & 7 are going to see young adults playing mid aged teens. Which isn't a huge stretch, but still. As for understanding it, I know a lot of people who watched the films but did not read the books (which is silly- the books are much better) but anyhow, they didn't have a problem understanding anything. You don't miss what you've never heard about (such as Hermione's S.P.E.W. stuff).

even though they may have read the book.. it still pissed me off.. b/c at the beginning of the process of directoing the movie, they were considering splitting the goblet of fire into TWO movies, that way WAY more of the details and storyline could get involved. and i thought it was a GREAT idea.. b/c the harry potter industry has made ((and will continue to make)) a butt-load of money that they could afford it. Plus you know the whole world will certaintly watch both, it's not like they would've lost any money or anything. but then they just decided to make one movie, and i was heartbroken.. the movie wasn't bad or anything, but to think of how much more woulda been there if they had made 2 full-length movies for that book?

as for the future deaths.. i have a sneaking suspiction that Sirius will somehow come back... Dumbledore will be in a portrait and that will be how he "kinda lives".. and the other deaths... maybe harry and voldermort.. that maybe, to destroy the ultimate evil the ultimate good will have to sacrifice himself. O.o something like that.. or Possibly Ron, which will make the suspense of the final battle greater.. i have no idea what will be in store, but i can't wait to read it.. :)"
