What Makes You Buy and Play a Video Game?

"What determines what games I purchase? Well there are several factors... depends on if the game is a new kid on the block or a veteran of the field...

If the game developer is "new" or one I relatively I do not play, I would likely read a few review (official to player) to see how well it faired. Another important aspect to me is graphics. It must be tolerable in graphical advancement. If the graphics prove too old or distasteful for me, I will avoid. I may read into the features, such as class system or combat system etc. and factor that into my judgement.

If the game developer is one I'm familiar with, chances are it will be based on whether it has gained my loyalty. I recently began to even read reviews on them but for the most part they fair as expected. Again, I take a look on graphical appeal and usually decide then.

Genre also has a good deal to do with it. If I'm in a strategy game phase, then other genres will turn me off. The mood on which genre is important factor in what games I buy. Right now, RPGs appeal the most, followed by Strategies and Simulations. Any mix of them that turned out ok is fine with me as well. This area also reenforces some other areas. RPGs demand more on storyline for me. Strategy demand more of faction/class balance. Simulations demand issues in learning curve, interface to feature issues, etc.

Lastly there is the price. I'm willing to wait a few years for the price to go down if the game initially is too expensive."

the difference between anime and regular cartoons

"I no longer like cartoons. Southpark to Sponge-bob I find those cartoons ok to unfullfilling for my entertainment needs. Ive pretty much stayed away from Disney too... making Kindom Hearts less appealing to me due to their presence. I feel like most of the difference in west and east "cartoons" lies in the theme and storyline. I rarely see good storylines in western cartoon... since the marvel hero cartoons like spiderman etc. anyway. I also read an article about the difference in the type of violence present in the japanese animations vs. western cartoon's voilence that i found somewhat true but I wont go into that since i dont recall the details very well. However, when it comes to RPG games, driven by storyline... west fairs better vs east so to speak."

"My parents obviously think I'm too old now for any cartoon. While I'm sure I was the only one who ever saw anime out of my sibblings, I am probably the one that still watch it now, though I started not long back."

Both. There must be visual appeal to get my attention. There must be personality and emotional appeal to keep my attention.

Rule works the other way around, even if one is more emphasised than the other:

"Failing an exam is indeed bad for me.

Assuming this was in early Childhood, failing a test means:
scolding from parents
beating from parents
future reminders of your failure(s) from your parents
they wont ever forget the failure
you bring shame on to your parents
your cousins think lower of you
your parents may invest more in your brothers or sisters if any as the "next hope"

Assuming this is now:
you just feel really bad because you just screwed up your GPA.
you just feel really bad because you just threw yourself in a ditch in the class.
you just feel really bad!

true, you DONT HAVE TO feel like such, or even care what others think. But for your own sake, some guilt is definately normal and healthy for control and discipline and good grades have their benefits that I need not mention... but otherwise the "I dont care" attitude here is leading down a bad path, unless your naturally confident that you will pull up your grades (which is not my case most of the time)"

"Just get an anti-glare screen. Rest your eyes every 30 minutes or so, just look around at other things, walk around, etc. ...if you must wearing sunglasses will do (or turn down screen brightness). Make sure you have confortable lighting and seating, especially if your going to be working and/or playing on the computer all day."

"It is a really nice and clean concept. The worst area is the northern part of the globe... you have bad pixelations there. The white space can be easily taken care of by overlapping some black patterns like lines, etc... make them light gray or pure black .. it would kind of depend on how it looks, experiement around. Lastly, make your credit and signature in clean white space, not where her legs are."

"Try setting the Rei layer (which hopefully only has Rei's extracted image in it) on normal instead of any effects. I sort of feel it looks better if the Rei image was clean while your background blast with their colors."

"Your plain black and/or white is just too play. use a slight shade of gray for design for the white part and/or a darker shade of gray for the black parts. pick some pattern or some repeating icon or something, im sure you can find something to slightly busy it. Otherwise i dont see any problems. make sure you have all the FAQ reqs before you turn it in. check size and sig req etc."

"Actually that was not following my input. you removed that greenish light which nulled the effects of the lightning I was wondering if the main image of Rei (not her shadow) had the overlaping lighting effects removed all together (only from the areas covered by rei's image). In other words, what did the orignal scan of Rei look like? I just want to see if the cleaner rei format looks better. I may not be expressing what I wish to see and compare correctly, so ignore me if it isnt clear enough since I dont want you going through all that work just to please my curisoity. Meanwhile, between the two you have produced, I prefer the more colorful first version. (Her shadow sort of reminds me of Aya Brea of Parasite Eve II)"
