This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.

[Anime Discussion] Darker than Black

"Another one for the Hei = eyecandy camp.

The general plot is moving rather slowly atm but it does keep me wanting for more. It's too early to tell whether my socks will be r0xx0red off yet."

What's so Great about Twelve Kingdoms?

1 year 3 months ago

"Well, I like the series because of the fantasy setting and it's set within Asian mythology. I've been exposed to too much western fantasy so this is a refreshing change.

Admittedly the anime and novel start out a little slow... I was watching past 11 episodes and I was terribly annoyed with Yoko's character. Luckily enough her character developed as the series progressed and that got me hooked.
After Yoko finally earned her place within the world, I then got interested with the world she was in (the culture, people and their beliefs).

There's nothing wrong in not liking it. Different strokes for different folks."

Did anime help you to learn Japanese?

1 year 8 months ago

"Actually I picked up Japanese mostly from manga... learnt the alphabet and some kanji along the way. Anime however did help me on enunciation. Picked up a few phrases too.. the only bad thing I got from anime is I guess, speaking Jpn improperly since I rather like male speech patterns more than the standard polite Jpn. :P"

have any people read ichigo 100 percent?

1 year 8 months ago

"I guess I am one of the few females that actually like Ichigo 100% -- the harem-ness of it all didn't annoy me that much as compared to Ken Akamatsu.

I didn't like the ending since I was rooting for the West corner lol

But the main reason I liked the story was because I wanted to find out who Junpei would choose in the end."

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

2 years 2 months ago

"Actually when the anime starts with Haruhi in her ship giving out commands, and Kyon cuts into her grand speech... there is a small shot of his crew consisting of many Kyons. screencap, at the bottom

Ep 11 certainly made me love Yuki. Before this, I thought she was just the silent character who wouldn't do much. As for Mikuru... I still have no idea what's her purpose in the story aside from the MOE factor."

Have you ever been made fun of for liking anime?

2 years 2 months ago

"Well, I'm from a Asian country and I am hesitant to owning up I am an manga/anime fan to the general public. Because even here, anime/manga still has the stigmata of 'only for kids'.

Once in a while we'll have tabloid-like articles on how 'anime is PRON. SAVE OUR KIDS!' and that will definately raise the negativity towards anime :P

But as of late, anime content is slowly increasing on local TV (since the TV execs realize anime = cash cow) and it saw the rise of Narutards.

Maybe this would clear the 'anime = porn' myth but it would take a lot of work to convince the non-anime watching public that anime is NOT just SailorMoon, DBZ nor Doraemon. Did you know I had a person come up to me whilst I was watching Evangelion and the person said I was watching Sailor Moon? 0_0 FAAAAAAAAAN-tastic."

DEATHNOTE ROCKS MY SOCKS!!

2 years 2 months ago

"DEATH NOTE was a great read... about halfway thru when *youknowwhat* . I guess the series lost it's fizzle after that... Near and Mello wasn't as interesting as their predecessor. They couldn't grab my attention for too long. I agree on the ending tho, it seemed rushed. And from the author's notes at the end it felt like she/he was getting tired of the series as well.

Anyway for those who read the whole thing, would you have the manga ended at the half-way point? I think that would've made a killer ending... "

Would you name....?

2 years 2 months ago

"... my answer would be NO. Since most anime characters have Japanese names (and some comes even with kanji), the situation of a non-japanese kid having a japanese name is just too... WTF for me to handle. Unless of course if I marry a Japanese, then it's totally okay by me...

Naming animals/items after characters is okay tho. 'Tis totally harmless and won't show in the national census."

"Yeah an anime will be coming out soon. Altho people I know who are bigger AG fans than me said they're not pleased with the character designs *shrugs*

I don't think I'd watch the anime since I know the anime can't potray the manga faithfully (censorship and all). But yeah, the manga is awesome. Eventho it has some sort of yaoi in it (Agito's crushing on Ikki is a lil weird y0. It's not exactly yaoi per se, I'd rather see it as the author poking fun at the genre. Either that or he's trying to pull the yaoi fangirls into reading his manga. :P)"

Only as creepy as those black monoliths from Neon Genesis Evangelion. As for Proxy, I think that "what it is" will actually be the whole point of the show and we'll gradually get more and more information about them leading up to some final conclusion in the last 2 episodes of the series.

At least the black monoliths didn't move. (it would be funny to see them moving while talking actually)

All I can is they'd better reveal what the hell this show is all about by the end or I would.. I would.. hurt some cute animal. Haha."

"Whatever flaws in animation it has... all I want is some sort of clue to what's going on in the story *am so confused* (Which reminds me of the scene in episode 1 or 2 where the Chairman Whose-Name-Escapes-Me-At-The-Moment asks the Mayor what is Proxy. I went, "Tell us dammit!" And... the scene cuts away to something else. Phoeey.)

Anyone else find the talking/moving statues in the Mayor's chambers a bit creepy?"

"Hehehe, I'm still pleasantly surprised at what Oda's pulling now. Kaku better have some sort of powerful move to fight while in giraffe form... or not, it would be a mistake for him to eat the fruit.

Maybe Oda decided he wanted to explore more of the animal series of the 'devil fruits'?

And Jyabura is either a dog or a wolf... the kanji on his chest is either dog or wolf *can't make it out*

And another note... the colourspread is LOVE. thanks for posting it up."

favourite shonen jump manga

2 years 7 months ago

"

Well in my country... Shonen Sundays is translated and change the name into "Shonen Mags", and School RUmble is in it... with Beck, Conan and the other...

MM... if im not mistaken.. the shonen jump manga is from the shonen sunday weekly right...? >_<
correct me if im wrong thanks... ^_^;

I think they're referring to the jpn Weekly Shonen Jump, published by Shueisha. You know the one with Naruto, Death Note, Hikaru no Go, One Piece, D-Grayman to name a few...

As for Conan, BECK & School Rumble, they're from Shonen Magajin published by Shogakukan.

Btw, my fave Jump manga would be One Piece, Eyeshield 21 and Katekyo Hitman Reborn."

What manga has the best art?

2 years 8 months ago

"
Hmm. I seem to like the artwork of Ichigo 100%. The hair is very detailed, it seems as if the artist drew one strip of hair by one strip at a time. Some of the characters are very good looking and all. It's modern clothing, nothing really special about the clothes, I'm just really interested in the hair. XD. It's not those type of hairstyle which is impossible to have.

well for Ichigo 100% I think I like how people are drawn in the manga. The girls aren't your usual stick-thin figures we usually see in manga. The girls have curves and bits of.. flesh placed accordingly. The gusy are always broad-shouldered tho but at least there's variety in their faces; from the handsome ones to the ugly ones LOL"

What manga has the best art?

2 years 8 months ago

"Clover by Clamp. Yeah it's pretty generic? stereotypical? answer but hear me out. Clover is probably one of their most beautiful works because 1) character designs and clothes. The Clover storyline is set in the near future and to reflect that, Clamp designed futuristic clothes and miscellany to fit in the theme i.e robotic birds, monotone clothes accented with screws, winged motorbikes, intricate wire cages.. it's eyecandy and a good one too.
2) the arrangement of the panels. The panels within the manga are arranged very artistically and they transcend the usual box grids we usually see... my impression from the panelling used is they appear to look like director shots/screens of a movie in progress. Great art direction here.
3) the usage of negative spaces. Not very common to see in manga... but Clamp managed to master them with style.
4) art. A different style was used for Clover where fine lines were used to ink. It gives out a light feathery 'texture'. Very different from what you've seen in other Clamp mangas.
5) story. So far in my opinion, the only Clamp story that doesn't not suck. *glares at rg veda & chobits* Hard to find fault with this one as compared to their other works."

"A big thumbs up to Ouran High School Host Club... there be too many gender-bender mangas around in shoujo-land.. makes me feel tired with the premise. But Ouran is pretty much different from the rest of them since she didn't choose to be dressed as a guy. She got mistaken to be a guy instead LOL"

"Don't really care for yaoi, can tolerate small doses of shounen-ai once a while... I don't really get on anyone's case for liking yaoi but the rabid fans are really scary 0_0 It's like being stuck in a small room watching Dir-en Grey concert dvds surrounded by hardcore fans.. and you don't even like Dir-en Grey TT_TT"

Have u ever cried..?

"One Piece. I guess it's because I'm such a fan that I get teary-eyed at all of the emotional scenes and OP has a lot of them. And the recent manga raws nearly made me cry too when one of the King Bull got injured but it urged the pirates on. Hahah, I'm such a wuss. Yep, OP. Probably the ONLY anime manga that makes me cry... I would never read the manga over if it ended with the same premise of unrequited love or if Harima paired with Tenma, though. Tenma was okay with me for like a volume, then I've just been wishing she doesn't appear at all.

I think I have a love/hate thing for Tenma. She's cute sometimes... but her clueless-ness is very irritating. poor Harima... I think it's better if you give up on your lost cause. LOL"

Best Manga artwork

2 years 10 months ago

"Some mentions..

Shirow Miwa/DOGS ; his/her art is lovely and supported by simple but well character design. His action sequences are IMHO, are excellent. It's not mind-boggling like the work of the masters, but it's good.

Inoue Takahiko/SLAM DUNK; the expressions, panelling, detail etc makes everything come to life in this basketball manga. his artstyle started as mediocre but improved as the series goes on into the greatness he is today.

Arakawa Hiromu/FMA; her pacing and action sequences are excellent and original. The art isn't that OMGWOW but the detail & design are interesting."

"My fave is Watanuki... mainly because my friend commented that I like to rant out loud just like him. Ho hohoho.

Besides that, I find his character to be really interesting. It must be a burden for him to see ghosts (I don't wish to ever have a gift like that) but because of that gift, he is able to see strange things and gain not-so-ordinary friends."
