"Gradients may be nice too. Or bring back big daisuke and desaturate the color or try some other treatments. Also this is from a design student's perspective. The Blue and Red you chose are too common. Try picking some different shades or tints. Dig into the colors and experiment with them. Keep on trying."

"Larger. Many people here use much higher resolutions. (me 4 example a widescreen 1440 x 900) 1280 should pretty buch be the minimum imo."

"Keep on trying. its hard to find the right balance. I would reccomend using the first one except fixing up the fonts and text, and simplifying the scribbles on the left. or using a less obtrusive effect. Don't give up."

Well, Ok, I was waiting to clean up the scan until I had a chosen bg idea to go with due to how they can conflict.
as far as font. right now it 's really acting as a place holder...
