This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"I think it's basically ready for submission, but if I might make a suggestion - maybe it could do for a little bit of color somewhere. It seems a bit too plain as it is, but the quality is above average, so I think you'll be fine either way."View
why this one rejected..
1 year 9 months ago
"I would say it's probably because of two things here. One being the logo at the top. It gets cut off in a strange way that seems like just a craftsmanship error. The other thing that appears to be an issue is the simplicity of the wallpaper. It may not quite be considered your own work because it looks like a one-tone background with a live trace layed over it. For most people, this involves about 5 minutes worth of work and a scan. That could easily be the reasoning behind rejection, but I'm not exactly the expert here."View

"If you asked me, I'd say this one is of submission quality. The character is very clean and the design is noteworthy. There don't seem to be any issues with the colors or with the background and the focus is right on.If it were me - I would submit it.
Hmm...I also wanted to note that wasting threads just to get paper doesn't seem like the greatest idea...if you're going to do that you could at least not say it and risk getting site priveleges revoked..."

"I think that about my only suggestion at this point would be to maybe work on some coloring for Haruko. Her hair and body look so flat, yet her face seems to have a sense of depth to it. Maybe that would up the overall quality of the wallpaper. Other than that, I would say that it comes together in an interesting way and seems to work out pretty well."View

"This looks a little bit different than it did before and it seems to be working out pretty well. I do notice that there seems to be a dark outline ((or a shadow on both sides)) of the pencil here. Maybe that should be worked with again..."View

"Hmm...This definitely needs some work if you do plan on submitting this here to AP.
First - the extraction on the character is a bit off. I can still see white / gray edges from the extraction. Also, I would'n go with such a noticable drop shadow on the character here. I would've used a lot less offset to leave the effect there, but make it a lot less noticable.
Second - the background. It seesm a tad bit too plain. It's going in a good direction and the colors seem to match up well with the character's position, it's just lacking for interest. ((It's also unfinished...there's a ray or two missing in the top left corner...))
Third - the text. The text is nice to have there and makes it interesting, but it's too noticable. The color contrasts the rest of the wallpaper a little too much. It should maybe be a dimmer color that matches up with either the colors of the character or the background so that it doesn't stand out so much.
Other than that, you've definitely got an idea that's able to work out. It just might need a few tweaks before submission. Also, the 1440 x 900 resolution is perfectly acceptable here. Being that you didn't know that, I would definitely have to tell you that you need to read the AP Guide before you go any further. Anyways, keep up the good work!"

"I definitely have to say that I like the first one much better. I especially have to say that because the colors in the second one seem to off-balance the rest of the wallpaper. I think the first one is much more subtle and works better with the colors that follow the background and, in turn, keep the "far east" theme going on here. I do have to make a suggestion for this though. There seems to be a lot of empty space in both examples and it makes the wallpaper seem too plain. Maybe there could be an added manuscript in characters following the style or something else interesting in the background there. Otherwise, I think this isn't going to make it too much further in the development process.I do have to say that what you have here definitely shows a lot of promise for a wallpaper and the extraction is very well done for the rest of the piece. Keep up the good work!"

"I'm having trouble getting to your wallpaper now. It says something about the data transfer has been exceeded for this site, so I think you used up your bandwidth temporarily. Maybe you should try with photobucket or imageshack for your wallpapers."View

"Another thing as far as shadows and that go would be to create maybe that angling up with the sticky note and the shadow, sice that what sticky notes always tend to do.My only other suggestion would be to maybe incorporate a little bit more contrast in the colors of the wallpaper. It seems so blan an not interesting with colors that are all about the same intensity. The only thing here that falls out of that pattern is the photograph and it seems to make it draw a lot of attention ((which isn't bad, but it detracts from the rest of the wallpaper...)) I would just say use maybe some darker colors for the wood grain in the table and a bit more of the shading element and you'd be pretty much set for a wallpaper."

"The font makes for an interesting effect to the wallpaper, but it seems a little bit too plain. Maybe you could try to add some textures into the background. That would leave the background as a dark theme without creating too much distraction from the characters. Also, the apple is extracted very poorly. The stem looks as though it needs a lot of work and the edges of the apple are entirely grainy. I would suggest using less hardness on the eraser tool to soften up that edge ((or try an anti-aliasing filter)). My other thing is that the apple seems a little bit too realistic for the rest of the wallpaper. If you could simplify it to look anime-ike, I think that that too would help bring up the quality of the wallpaper.Other than that, I have to say that it's a very good start and you should definitely keep up the good work!"

what turns you off in an anime???

"Really bad English dubs are the worst thing ever when it comes to anime. I can think of so many different series that have really crappy English dubs, so I only watch my anime in Japanese.Another thing that really bugs me in anime is all of the ridiculous hentai crap. As if it's not bad enough with all of the stupid porn addicts as it is, they have to resort to anime porn. I mean, seriously, is it that hard to go out with a real girl for once?
I think the other major thing that really gets me going is when a series gets cut off short because it was underfunded or the editors just give up or cancel it. Prime example - Hellsing. The US censors stopped the series altogether here because people were starting to get scared. It's make believe! Fiction! But then, on the other hand, you have FLCL where there was only 6 episodes made and a lot of storyline jumping to make the series short. Just make 6 more episodes and drop the price on the DVDs! "

"I definitely like everything about AP right now except the trouble I've been having with downloading scans and wallpapers. It downloads half of the image and gets interrupted, causing the image to time out at half of a picture. This particularly hurts me when it's a scan and keeps charging me 50 papers for every time that I try to reload the page to actually get the image. Maybe something could be put into the code to reference if a user has already downloaded the page to not recharge them papers?"View

"Welcome to Anime Paper!Well, the creations here are top notch, but that has to do with the strict following of the rules by all of the members here. The regulations are very strict and very clear in the guide and everyone is expected to understand and follow those rules. As for the creativity, well what else would you expect of thousands of anime fanatics? I started out just like you and I'm starting to become familiar with programs and starting to get better at making wallpapers. I didn't think I would ever have anything to submit and now I have two in the galleries with another in the making. It's really an accomplishment to get wallpapers up here, so I wish you best of luck if you do pursue the creative aspect of this art.
Anyways, if you ever have questions, feel free to ask me or pretty much anyone else here. We're usually more than happy to help. So go out and have fun, make lots of new friends, and ((most importantly)) enjoy your stay here at AP!"

"Well, welcome to Anime Paper! There's a lot to learn here, especially if you like to make your own anime wallpapers. This is a community based around the wallpaper making portion of the members and the amazing works that are contributed by them. Before you go and do anything else here, you sould take the time to check out the AP Guide. That explains all of the rules that you need to know before you go and do anything you're not supposed to. It's not difficult to understand and the rules are common sense, so don't worry. If you ever have questions, there are plenty of people here ((including myself)) who would be more than happy to help.
So go out, have lots of fun, make plenty of new friends, and ((most importantly)) enjoy your stay here at AP!"

"It means your scans didn't go through. You should check the file size of them before you upload them. Usually, you don't want to try and upload anything over 1.5 mb. Those usually don't even get uploaded. Also, double check that they didn't get rejected. You would have gotten a PM that was titled "Submission Rejection Notice" and gotten a 100 paper fine ((usually for each one that's rejected)).Your best bet is to read the guide to get all of the info you need. Just read the scans section and you might find out that there might be something wrong with what you uploaded.
Best of luck to you with that and if you have any more issues your best bet is to PM an administrator. Have fun with the rest of your stay here at AP!"

"I think the scan still needs a lot of cleaning. There's a lot of inconspicuous white spots around here along with some places where she has an out line and others where she doesn't. Other than that, it's looking pretty good. Just needs some simor tweaking before it's ready for consideration."View
A new try for a second wallpaper...
2 years 1 month ago
"Well, the help is very much appreciated, but it doesn't seem to be helping too much with this wallpaper. I see what's being said as for the radial blur, but I've tried different variations of that along with different zoom blurs and motion blurs, too. None of them really did anything but ruin the overall product. It also changed the focus of the wallpaper to Sasuke too dramatically. I want him to be the focal center of the wallpaper, but I think that draws too much attention to him and makes the rest of the wallpaper look like a barrage of nothing. So, I've been trying to get some help from friends, but they're not doing a whole lot for me. I tried going to my art professor, but he wanted me to let him alter it. That's not the point of doing my own work. That leaves me here, once again, looking for more advice. I'm really hurting for input. I want to get a new wallpaper into the galleries. My last one was 7 whole months ago! ((and it really wasn't that great looking at it later...))
If it helps at all, I use Macromedia Fireworks. It's a little bit like Photoshop, but designed for the purpose of web graphics. I can use photoshop plugins and stuff like that and the tools are pretty much the same, it's just A LOT cheaper and it's all I've got."

"Well, what exactly do you mean by the radial blur thing. I've played around with it before, but with the complexity of the million layers I've got going there, it might be a feat all in it's own. Any suggestions for that one?"
