"Yo missy. i just closed Illustrator after 4 hours of vectoring on a nice lolita and i can't see anymore vector before some hours of sleep. but i'll tell you this: good work on the hair so far, rework the pink outline of the collar, and for the lines, i'm sorry but u've chosen a pain in the ass screenshot for lines, cuz there are only three lines in this shot: two at the bottom of the collar, and one on the collar itself. it's normal that it looks messy if you add them: it already looks messy on the original shot if you focus a bit on it. now you've got two solutions: don't put them (but i think it'd look as flat as the chest of one of my ex girlfriends then) or put them and add more where you feel there should be. just be aware that lines usually are there for the foldings of clothes, just the same as shadows.
in any case, if you make them, DON'T make *lines*, make SHAPES in the form of a line, with spiky endings, it looks much better on this kind of vectors. (i know what i'm talking about, i just made more than 40 in the last hour)

"Kalico said that simplicity can work for some walls and that it would be accepted if simplicity was the right thing to do for a wall. but honestly, there are so many walls with a scan slapped over a gradient... makes me sick.
Now for the "popular" walls that would be rejected, i see so many crappy walls that are praised to the skies just because they are FMA, Naruto, Fate stay Night, or other popular series. I hate to say it but i think there are many people that will only comment walls of their favourite series (mainly the previously named ones), and won't even give a look to other walls that are much more beautiful and resulting of very hard work, just because it's not featuring Edward Elric, Kakashi-sensei, or Saber. And that makes me damn sick. AP is famous because of it's high standards of quality and should remain as so, even if the price to pay is to reject more walls only to keep the really good one."

well i dont find Illustrator to be THAT different from Photoshop in the handling way... i tried Illustrator like 3 days after trying Photoshop for the first time, it took me like 10min to understand what it was featuring more than PS. it may be ridiculous, but my favourite feature in IL compared to PS is that ctrl+Z can rewind all the way back :p (i had fun one time i hold it after 5 hours of vector until it came back to the begining LOL it's very funny to see honestly)"

"Hey, just so you know, lines re ESSENTIAL part of a vector, because it gives it depth. it's almost impossible to make a vector look good W/O lines. except if it's a very radical chibi.
convert tool is under the pen tool (it's a "sub" tool) and ellipse is under the rectangular tool."

ok it's a good try at vector. now let me give you a tip or two.
open THIS and look:
you never should use outlines like you did in the red circles because it's just ugly. instead, have it make a spike like in the green cirlce by playing with options of outlines, OR making a shape of it's own. personnaly i almost never use outlines, i prefer shape because you can manipulate them easier.
the yellow circle is a circle you should have done with the ellipse tool, cus you can get perfect circles this way.
another thing: make less anchor points, use the convert tool more, it makes perfect lines, without breaks, like there is here and there in your vector.
work work and u'll have a decent result, it's a good start! good luck missy

PS: you actually choosed a hard pic for begining, cuz it has very low details. i'd say perfect pics for vecotr are mid-detailled, cuz when there's too many details it's a pain, and when there's not enough, the vector lacks depth."

firs, the wall looks neat and cool. but it also looks so plain. not "boring" but almost.
and i think a techno bg doesn't fit FMA... :/ but this is my opinion so let's keep it away :p
fact is, your scan is clean, but your BG is even MORE clean. and the contrast doesn't work (a contrast like grunge-vector is awesome but here it doesn't work) i'd suggest you have the BG "eat" some borders of the scan, so it blends more the whole thing.
also: the right part of the wall is empty. don't you wanna fill it? like move the title a bit?

i didn't intend to post this wall here in the first place, but a lil advice from the regulars is always usefull huh?
ok so i made this wall of Roy Mustang with a very nice scan of AP. Had to re-CG all the right part of his body (arm and coat) cuz it was hidden by another character. i know the fire ball he's holding is too sharp for the vector style but i'm gonna fix that don't worry. i just need an opinion on the overall wall. constructive critique is welcome as usual ^^

Burst Angel WP ....good enough for the gallery?

"Ok first things first. i did a wall paper of Bakuten a few days ago (you can check it in the gallery :p) and when i decided of making a bakuten wall, i was divided between using this scan and the scan i actually used. Problem with this scan is it surely comes from an artbook and is basically a sketche colorized (the uncolorized sketch can be found in AP or Minitokyo if i remeber well) and so it is quite hard to use unless you make the rest of the wall "sketch-like" (and i see it's what you tried to do with the wings it's good).
u can also try to restore it so it looks like a finished drawing, but it demands skills and patience, i assure you.
what you actually made so far would be a nice BG but to me it doesn't suit the scan's style completely... :/ don't worry if it's your first wall it happens all the time.
One of the major things a waller has to do in a wall is to blend the scan in the BG, so it doesn't seem like it's just slapped on it (it is the case here) for example, her legs look waaay more bright than the upper part of the body and it's bad.
well for the moment i like the wings (try to darken them tho) but rework a bit the BG to something .. les abstract maybe? and definitely try to blend the scan with the BG (find some tutorials about blending HERE at Good-Tutorials

the scans looks like just splat on the BG (BG is ok imo) and there's a NEAT difference between young goku and old goku, the young one has his coloring.. a bit dull. i mean it looks like an old denim you would have washed too many times. but my major trouble is sumply the plain-ness of this wall... young goku... old goku... young goku... old goku...young goku... old goku...ZZZZzzzZZzZzzz not VERY exciting huh? you can find something better i'm sure just look in your scans. and the font you used is maybe unapropried and i find it ridiculously small compared to the rest of the wall. i'm not happy at all, i was used to see much much much better work from you. WAKE UP! i like you alot and i know you kick ass if you want. "

"If i can put a word, from what i've seen for the short time i've been here, (i'm gonna speak bout Session Zero since it's the forum i'm mostly posting and reading) mods are rather gentle and helpfull about criticisms and advices on walls most of the time, but i must say i've seen a few posts (don't ask me to look for these posts among the hundreds of session zero) where answers where quite harsh and rough, or at least could have been understood as if by the readers. Wether it was meant to hurt or not, the fact is IMO it did hurt the person it was adressed to.
As far as it concerns me (siince i've never been victim of such posts), i put this on misunderstanding. to me it's just that you wanted to say something but expressed it the harsh way. Sometimes you just throw a verbal punch without being aware of actually throwing hard.
As a mod myself in my group, i admit i'm sometimes pissed of by some member's post but refrain from scolding them too harshly and publicly, even if i direly want to XD well that's what i had to say, hope my english can be understood by everyone."

another thing you should work on is definitely your font for title. as i always say, title of a wall is a VERY important part to design and can completely change a wall. i suggest you to upload fonts HERE on dafont.com they got really nice fonts and large variety.

to be honest, there's something that disturbs me in this vector other than the lines, but i don't know what it is.. :/
