"I blurred the eye myself :p i think it gives a more natural look but obviously i'm wrong hehe about the lines, it's what gives me most trouble in vectoring, cuz i'm basically not an artist at all (i first tried photoshop and Illustrator like one month and a half ago) so i can't draw proper things and don(t have any technique on where and how should i put these darn lines that give depth to vectors.
for now i add them more like randomly, as i do with shadows... :/ well if you would be kind enough to point out what lines in particular you were talkin about, i'd be gratefull :) thanks for commenting btw"

vector is a painstacking method, but it can achieve awesome results, just look at what Kalico does...

ah a few more tips: make as few annchors as you can on a path, use the curves you can make with the convet anchor tool as much as you can, it'll give a much sweeter look to what you do. and think to the layers as your friend, not your enemy: what can i hide behind this layer? is one of the questions i tumble on most often, cuz i'm lazy and always wonder what i can do quick XD for example: the skin is what i put first, and it's gonna be re-designed by the layers i put over it, so i just make an unaccurate pattern figuring out where skin is. its faster XD
well take a look at these two tutorials they're great help for basics, and don't be ashamed to take a look at the one provided in illustrator, they're quite well done. only if you take a quick look :p

well, the main things it took me to make this vector are: pain, sweat, pain, headache, pain, and some good music to chill out XD
well seriously, u'll need Illustrator to easier the work. Pen tool use and shortcuts are a bit different form Pshop, but you get used too pretty quick. few tips: keys Ctrl, Alt, Ctrl+shift are your friends if you wanna save A LOT of time. use it with pen tool and anchor converter tool to switch functions (on pen tool or anchor tool, Ctrl transforms it into the tool that moves path or anchors, for example)
next, before actually begining your vector work, think, even take pen and paper XD to figure out what order u'r gonna give to your layers. i usually go this way: first come skins, then clothes, then eyes, then hair (most of the time, there will be hair in front of the eyes on pictures, no? ) and in the end shadows and highlights.
but it varies. i think the best way is to follow the depth of the picture. finish buy what you see first. for example, on this vector, what you would touch first if you were touching it with you hand would be the guns, right? so i did the guns last (before shadows of course :p). you have to think to the vector as a big sandwich with stories... what do you put first? bread or salad? LOL
well i'd say one sure thing is always do shadows and highlights last, and of course, don't jump on it, it's very important, it's what gives depth to your vector.
thats all i can say, i'm a noob at vector after all (3rd try at illustrator XD) but u'll see, it's like photoshop, comes fast as long as you practice. well in fact it's liek everything, huh?

"Prinnies will rule the world! prinnies kick asses! i made them clearer an d sharper (secret technique :p) and removed a bit of glow on text. and changed some toons as well and put a gradient on BG. honestly i think i'm gonna leave it at that, i find it just funny and childish enough :p

the palm tree... i didn't find a real good tutorial so i just extracted it from a scan i made and recolored it a bit.
i didn't work on the sand yet, i'm gonna do that after a good night o' sleep XD

"Ok... i made some changes on the wall, addes girls and stuff to fill the scene, but to be honest... i'm not very happy with what i did. i have the feeling i did far better in the past :p
well i'm disturbed by some kind of depth problem in here, i don't know exactly what size should have who and what... i just lack of inspiration i guess. well if you have advices it's now i need it!XD

"Well in the original screenshot and in the context of the anime, he's sitting at a bar, his elbow on the bar, and i was focusing on this idea, because i KNOW what he's supposed to be doing. but i just thought he could completely be just lying on the sand, his cocktail glass on the ground and taking the picture with his othe arm. the fact 95% of his body is hidden allows that :p i removed the sea further in the wall, so it leave more beach i can actually use for a sand castle and girls, take a look at it:

of course now i'm gonna have to work on sand perspective to give depth to it but i think it's possible...

and i just found out i can fully play with perspective just by modifying the angle of beach-sea and their width."

"FYI, i was tempted to make a wall with this screenshot (that would have been my 3rd Ergo Proxy hehe) but i eventually gave up, seeing how hard it would be to sharpen the character. by that i mean this image is seen like not even 3 seconds in the anime, so i gues the artist didn't gave much detail to it. it's cool if you see it for 3 seconds without really watching it, but look... if you pay good attention, u'll see it has barely no details, and it would be very disturbing as a wallpaper i think (this is the problem of ergo proxy BTW, great story, some great great scenes, but the rest lacks of quality, but this is another topic hehe) well if you can redraw what is lacking, go ahead XD now about your BG, work on giving this a better "anime look" cuz it looks a bit too real to me. and when u'll work on the ligh, i sugges you make it reflec on the opposite wall, even if you have to make the shadow of the android... this would make an amazing effect...

"YOSH! ok.. i decided what i'd go for this wall... the main idea i mean.. it's gonna be "beach time" with photography (or postcard whatever) look.
what i'm gonna show you is work done in 1hour (45min lost because of unsaved work and computer crash XD) just to throw the base perspective of the wall. i want to make it look like Kanta took the photo himself, so he's close to the camera... i'm surely gonna add some text like "love from Honolulu" or "i hope it's snowing in your place" or some crap like that... i want to put naked (or almost naked ;p ) girls playing on the beach or something...
i'm gonna work on the sea, beach, sky, sun and all, as i said it's just to give you an idea of what it's gonna become. i can make the beach bigger to even add a bar or something... you this kind of bars you find on beaches in the island :p
i was thinking to scale down Kanta maybe, but i find the size right for now. i wanted to add a palm tree too, or at least the suggesting part (like only some leaves on the upper part of the picture)...
what do you think people??!! how should i proceed? i'm really gonna need your help cuz i think it's gonna be very complicated to coordinate every perspective...

"Yosh! i already started a new wall :p i only made the vector i'm gonna use as main material, but i wanna know what i could add... i worked on a screenshot as usual and had to create the top of the head that was missing (btw, creating something that is missing is such a pain ahah). the rest i didn't, since i plan on putting him in a corner.
this time happily the eyes were rather simple to do XD i was thinking to make the hair darker maybe, but i'll see when i make the BG if i should or not. i think this time i managed to make a vector not too flat. well enough talkin, just look ;)

hey shini just have had an idea by reviewing this thread. Onsen are usually in mountains. i think you should go for a mountain BG or something similar, it would make more sense, and be definitely easier to do i think...

ps: sometimes, it's not the BG you need to change, it's the scan. i hate it when i can't find something to do with a scan i love, so i just put it aside for sometimes until i find inspiration. maybe you should work on something else for awhile? i know it's a hard decision, but think it's just temporary!"
