This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.
While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"It's a good manga - dark, mysterious and engaging. not the "best" series ever, but is definitely enjoyable.tp be honest, the "real" plot has only just started (in my opinion) meaning that... it'll be slow for me to finish the manga *sighs*
but's it's a good manga.. so i'll definitely keep up with it."

Do your parents read manga?
1 year 6 months ago
"They don't sadly... since it's in english, and my parents have limited knowledge for it, but they might of if i lived in like... hong kong. i sometimes i wish i could read chinese or japanese as it would definitely be cheaper to buy... and my parents think it is kinda a waste of money and think that manhua (chinese for comic) is childish and cartoons are as well. however they dont try and stop me since it is MY interest."View
Tokyopop, Viz, or DelRey?
1 year 6 months ago
"Actually, i just go for the series they sell. all companies have their good and weak point, and while there might be some series where certain companies butchering it, there are exceptions (e.g. tokyopop totally butchered initial d, but the translaion and quality of fruits basket is exceptional or viz's rurouni kenshin, that is like the best translated series they put out - the translated the sfx, suffixes are used and there are historical/cultural notes at the end). it really depends on the staff that works on that particular series, since they use different people for different series.Tokyopop - pros: has the largerst selection of manga
-cons: a single volume can take up to 6 months to be release. most of the series are like... meh and they dont translate the sfx (which is bad for certain people like me as i dont read japanese.
viz - pros: has most of the better titles out there. the newer series the bring out are geting better as well (translation wise)and they translate the sfx. the redoing of the pics are pretty good as well. this company publishes manga the fastest (actually it depends how far it is in japan compare to here)and are cheaper compared to other companies.
cons: they dont retain suffixes (rurouni kenshin being an exception), have translation notes (ouran and some other series being an exception)andtend to make occasion edits (like the one in FMA volume 8)and most of their (shonen, especially) are extremely long meaning it could take years to catch up/ finish the series(NOTE:not entirely their fault though).
Del Rey - pros: they retain suffixes, translate sfx, there is little or no editting, has some of the better series out there as well ( TRC, xxxhholic, negina, wallflower, suzuka, nodame cantabile - well i lie it, airgear etc).
cons: there have been soe inconsistencies with a few series (e.g in vol 3 and 4 of negima, instead of the "1000 master"the translator translated to something like something summer, however this was fix in later editions). also the prices tend to be more expensiver than other companies and the wait for each is rather long as well, between 3-6 months (though they are catching up to the japanese site of things)
well i cant really judge on other companies like cmx, adv, dark horse, broccoli books etc. since i only read like a series each from each company and i cant be bother writing one for chuang yi (singaporean company) so i shall leave it here for now.
in all, it actally depends on the team assigned to tht partcular series and how much money is actually invested on it."

DEATH NOTE

"I love it so much! but seriuosly, it has to be good since this is the anime of the season. i love how it follows so closely to the manga. but since there is 37 episodes, i think it only covers the L arc... dont quote me on this one. b/w i wanna see the live action moies as well, especially since death note is REALLY REALLY big in Japan now. i also wanna see the spin-off as well, though i somehow doubt it wont be as good as the two movies..."View
Kira & L

"I neer reslly liked light... no idea why... i mean he was good looking and all, and his intellect was simply outstanding like L but somehow i like L better. Light's personality, i just, wasn't one that i really liked. however, if one of them were missing in'death note' the series would have been ... well ... different. since eeryone is talking about righteousness and stuff, i might as well clear something up: "there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so' - meaning that it is our own beliefs and morals that make us think (or believe) in a certain way. by saying that, i believed that L's morals were more "righteous" than Light's."View
What if you're gf/bf ask you to stop watching anime or manga?
1 year 9 months ago
"It's not a problem for me... yet. however if it does happen ni the future, my future bf wouldn't have ask me to stop (since this is something that makes me, me) and at least approach about this. heh.. this most likely would happen to be as anime/manga is either considered to be porn, or just for kiddies... basically meaning that it is nearly non-existent here. but from what i hear about relationships, compromise is one of the key factors in one so if it doesnt work in one, then the relationship isnt worth having. so... this means that if he/she doesnt accept you for liking manga/anime then he/she is not worth your time."View

Loving manga but not the price.
1 year 9 months ago
"hmm... the reason why manga here(in australia) is so expensive is because we have to import our manga from the US. comic bookstores (and borders are places where manga are heaps expensive). apart from borders, have you tried any place else? a good place to start i kinokuniya, a store which is located in sydney. their price is pretty decent and is you have membership, then you get manga for the same price as americans (or even cheaper, especially with viz titles). they do overcharge the del rey titles, but their prices are ALOT better than comic stores.
chain stores like Big W and Target have started to stock manga but it is VERY limited. they only stock like 10 titles at the most and they are only tokyopop. also amore than half these titles are OEL, which can get reall annoying. however Big W sells their manga for $9.71 which is definitey the cheapest i seen around and target sells theirs for $12.95.
EB Games stock manga as well. however they are mainly Chuang Yi titles and not many stores stock them. if you are fortunate enough ou may be able to get tokyopop's titles but this is very rare. new titles are usually $12.95 or $14.95, but you can get some titles like slam dunk! for $6-8.
I have also seen Angus and Robertson stocking Rurouni Kenshin titles for $12.95. however the publisher is Gollanzc, the UK equilavent to the US, and their binding techique isnt exactly good.
Or ou can try local comic stores which tends to sell their manga (usually) for $20+.
You can try buying online... but keep in mind the shipping cost (which can total up ALOT of money). i havent bought anything online since my parent forbid me to do so but i have seen some places wgere they sell manga for a reasonable price.
NOTE: all these prices are in Australian Dollars.
B/W i dont think US$10 (or roughly AU$13.30) is expensive for a manga tat has been translated. firstly that is how much you roughly pay, or even less, for a decent novel. publishers like tokyopops and viz have to get lisence for the manga firstly, and this can be alot of money esp. for some titles. the cost also is divided for translators, scanlatrs, editors... etc. and al that adds up. plus they do need to make some extra money overall so that counts as well. if you think about it is rather cheap. 10 years ago, manga were much, much more expensive... like $20 US, so it really isnt that much if yo compare it to the prices that long ago. plus, manga is still not considered "popular", which rises up the prices for it. any hobby is expensive not just buying manga, and no one is forcing you to buy it so i cant really why you guys are complaining. you can take the easy way out and download scans, but keep in mind that not supporting the mangaka (through buying the manga) equals less manga for people."

Which CLAMP work you think is the best?

"Hm... this is not a very difficult question for me... it is definitely TRC and xxxholic...they have great storyline, cool characters, great character develpments and cool drawings. TRC is definitely cool, like someone said earlier, it is kinda like kingdom heaarts - the concept that everything is crossed over and all. oh... and chobit, that is my fav finished series by clamphm... their other series...
wish - it is a sweet series, but never really liked it, not much of a yaoi fan myself, though im not against it when i read it...
x-i havent really read it so no comment
angelic layer - this was, by far one of their better earlier works, i love the concept of this series
rg veda - i read the first volume, im sorry to say thati found it rather boring so i gave up reading it after the second(?) volume
CSS - another sweet series, however it was a bit too 'light' and 'cheery' for me
Magic Knight Rayearth - another one one their earlier works that was the 'better' ones. i definietely loved the drawings.
man with twenty faces - i thought this story was kinda weirdish so yea...
i read most of their works exc. tokyo babylon (which i really wanna read) and the clamp detective series (which i also wannaread)..."

Is anime soft porn?

"this is very true. in today's society, im sorry to say that sex sells. even to the little kiddies, im afraid to say. i mean the younger audience are total oblivious to the issue yet it still sell to them. i mean have you seen the increase of girls wanting bras because they say what their idols wearing one in movies?
however with all the strict regulations with the rating and such, kiddies are not meant to see these perverted syuff and if there are any, the companies such as 4kids would censor the things out (it starting to remind me of australian history now).
from what u're saying, all i can say is the culural difference in society about sxuality."

American Manga is it the real deal?

"I rearely read 'manga' that doesnt come from japan. in my opinion, manga can only be applied to comics from japan, like manhwa is to korean, manhua to chinese etc. (basically, however other countries refer to comics that's how we should call it). this is because, loosely translated, manga means comics, and thats how japanese people refer to it."View

What makes a great manga?
2 years 4 months ago
"Well for a manga to be good, it has to contain some elements of my opinion.Storyline: the story line has to run smoothly, firstly because i simply hate the fact that it's boring one minute and all hyper the next. and if it remains boring i simply wont read it (or read it and regretting it). it CANNOT be cliche, because i hate predictable ones (which is why i like Fruits basket so much).
Characters: each characters' personalities has to have something unique about them, or it gets boring e.g. the 'serious, sensible' one, the comic relief, the naive, rough-edged etc.
Relationships: Whether it is Shonen or Shoujo (i like both), i would appreciate if there is love between the main character/s AND also the minor characters, since i am more of a shoujo fan and i do appreciate if is a shonen, it should contain shoujo elements and vice versa. I also like if there are rocky bits like a major ordeal they have to go through somewhere throughout in their relation e.g ichigo and rukia (bleach) - i like this pairing.
Art: (this is the matter of one's liking) this is an important element because if the art is really bad, especially if there are fighting scenes in it, it kinda puts you off reading it.
Originality: this element is hard to find in most manga nowadays because basically every single idea has been taken. but if a manga is close to being an orginal then i would say it would be a great one. (this reminds me of me recently writing a 300 word sci-fi premise but it ended up sounding like the beginnig/blurb of Mobile suit Gundam SEED)...
I would, above all, if the manga delivers the whole (or most of it) package, then it's bound to be a great manga. "

what are the longest series?
2 years 4 months ago
"Fruits basket isn't really that long... there are (going to be) 22 volumes and the series has only four chapters left. actually, you cant really judge the series length by the chapters, coz some chapters have 10-20 pages while others have like 40. you should really judge by how many volumes is (or going to be) is in the series as when the chapters are comprised in a volume, they are around the same length.
even if series (manga and anime) like naruto, one piece, bleach, detective conan, pokemon (cant believe this series is still running), etc. are good (or crap, depending what you like) series with 30+ volumes are kinda stupid - imaging how much it would cost. anyway the creators would get sick of drawing them eventually (like it did for doraemon) and end it. "the new zealand dollar is just under the australian dollar, so i'm assuming a manga over there is around AUD$16-$20.
This mean its wayyyyyyyyy expensive coz if it is in USD it is around... er... $12 -$15 dollars
and probably around 6-8 euro.
of course these are my estimates... "
