This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

You need papers to download scans, yes. However, you don't have to BUY them necessarily. Check the faq for more details... basically, just be active on the website and you'll be fine.

mountains anyone?

"<!--QuoteBegin--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Onegai Twins is one great anime! So sad too~ I like the grass but I think the sparkle effect in them is a bit too much. Personally, I don't think a terragen mountain would work - it's mixing 2D with 3D which usually doesn't work well (unless I got my definition wrong).
I'd suggest stock photos but without a doubt, the BEST would be getting a background that's handdrawn.
I wonder if anyone can come up with one or already has a tutorial to changing stock photos to making it look dangerously close to being anime drawn in Photoshop. That would be heck useful.  :bounce:<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Hmm...not sure about this, but could Median filter work for this?
I know it blurs stuffs and remove a lot of details, but at least it gives the painted look. With additional cg touch up I think it can look better.

EDIT: Oh there is a mountain tutorial at <a href='http://div.dyndns.org/EK/tutorial/mountain/' target='_blank'>here</a>. But it only let you see a glimpse on how to paint it. You have to experiment with it."

What don't you like about your own wallpaper/art?

4 years 5 months ago

"What don't you like about your own wallpaper/art? How do you get around it?

Hmm...for me I think what I don't like about when making wall's is I break up my wallpaper in progress too early. Is like, I got this idea for it and even extracted the character for it already. Then after that if the few steps I do for the background doesn't look good like the wonderful wallpaper artist or something impossible for me I ran out of motivation and do something else.

But I think I ended up like that is because of my lack of understanding of basic art rules (color, composition, values, etc.). I also change my style on every wall that I make so I didn't quite have my own style.

Most of my previous wallpaper work, didn't even stay on my own desktop for to long (1 week most). If I had come across any great wallpaper posted online it can easily replace my current desktop. I didn't even like it myself! Ahhh! ;_; . Well, at least I'm very happy with the outcome of my last wallpaper (War of Genesis 3: Fallen City) and it have stayed on my desktop for a few weeks <!--emo&^_^--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='happy.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Somehow when I create it I got this amazing motivation to move forward. I can't seem to invoke that motivation again or at least lasted for a few minutes than lost it.

So now I'm looking at tutorials that teach the basic of colors, composition, etc. hoping that could help me in making better wall. It also helps to look at various wallpaper design that others have done, 'work in progress' artwork and practice, practice and practice...

How about yours? o_o"

I was hoping there was a way to leave your pen path \"active\" and just go to another layer and do a different path, but that doesn't seem to work.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Hmm...I'm not sure about PS 7 but on my PS CS there is a window like the one on the attachment. Look for it. With that you can work your path like layers, create another new layer to work a new path or switch back to your previous path and continue your path. I haven't really tried it myself yet."

Tutorials and Resources

4 years 5 months ago

"Ok, I'm not sure where should I post this. If it's not please move it where this should be. I just posted my list of fav tutorials on minitokyo, so I might as well shared it here also.

theWebMachine - Tutorials on Adobe products, great for web graphics.

TIEMdesign - Tutorials for Photoshop and others graphics program including 3D softwares.

Sumaleths Link Archive - Huge list of tutorials, covers not only photoshop but also basic of art, tradisional media, Digital Media 2D and Digital Media 3D.

EatPoo - A great tutorial forum. There is a sticky thread there that are quite useful for art n00b as it did for me.

GFXartist - My fav site. Have some tutorials on PS. Also a great source for inspiration as there are a lot of 2D artist work posted there. There is always something nice to see there.

Hope that help some of ya in walling more great wall! ^_^

3D in anime

"<!--QuoteBegin--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Blue Sub Nº6, made also by Gonzo Digimation and with character designs by Range Murata, also makes an ellegant use of CG. On the other hand, there are shows like Run Dim that just deserve to burn in hell. Regarding characters in CG... well, just look at the Zone of the Enders games for PS2. The first uses cutscenes made completely by CG. The second uses anime for any scene involving characters, leaving the CG for the mechas. In my humble oppinion, the second option is much more pleasing to the eye.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Yeah!...forgotten about my fav game on PS2. I just love their mecha design. I like the second one better as the first one that have 3D anime character is not that good."

3D in anime

"Yeah...I agree with ya all. It will either work out fine or not at all. I heard from my friend that the new Initial D 4th stage dump the idea of 3D cars as it did for last time. And seems that it is even nicer without the 3D. Hmm...gotta see it."

3D in anime

"What will happend if the character itself is a 3D hehehe. Will it still be call anime? <!--emo&--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Actually games like Xenosaga are already using that. For me, I think it still lack in the 2D art especially the animation flow. Otherwise, if the story is good it is still ok for me.

EDIT: Might as well mention Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children hehehe. 8D"

3D in anime

"I noticed a lot of recent anime started to use 3D as opposed to normal hand-drawn 2D. For me, I think the 3D uses in series like Macross Zero really takes anime to another level of realism. 8D

What are your views in this? Does 3D takes away the anime art or merely enhanced it?

Since we are talking about this, how about the uses of non-abstract 3D in anime wallpaper? <!--emo&^_^--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='happy.gif' /><!--endemo-->"

A 96Kb 3D FPS game? you're kidding...

4 years 5 months ago

"I managed to scrap out one of the 64kb demos in my hard disk to share with ya all. This was released at Assembly 2003 and got the 1st place in Combined 64k intro competition.

I have watched it again to get their compression info out of the credits section.

5Mb of textures crunched into 1kb

70Mb of sound data crunches into 5.5kb

3D world of 80000 vertices and 150000 faces is 4Mb of 3D data crunched into 10kb

I wonder if that compression technology can be used for video and audio files hehehe..."

A 96Kb 3D FPS game? you're kidding...

4 years 5 months ago

"Nope...

I just saw this floating on the net for a while. Might be old news but I'm amazed by their work. How do they pack those textures and models into the small 96Kb package... convert them to assembly codes?

Check this out on <a href='http://www.gamershell.com/news_AnFPSin96kbSurelynot.shtml' target='_blank'>gamershell</a>.

A word of warning though, this game is resource hungry. Have a lot of those RAM's ready and load up at least a Geforce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card."
