After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

"Actually, Kyokunchan, I disagree.. There are plenty of ways you could limit yourself in the game to make it challenging. You can basically set up whatever level of challenge you want for yourself. For instance, I had a friend who would always send out one less battle person than the specific battle permitted. If he was given the ability to send out five, he would always only send out four... etc. There are many other ways to challenge yourself. One time playing through, I tried to gain JP without distributing it as long as I could, so I would have the points for the skills, but not distribute it until the end. Though this is kinda not good if you're trying to get a "perfect game" because your skill points don't level right, but it makes it more challenging. This is one of the few games where you could do things like this."

"That's another thing that's true... with better graphics comes more expensive consoles. And because people apparently put such a great deal of importance on graphics it's becoming more and more expensive to make games as well as the systems which can handle them...

This thread has really been an eye-opener... I really didn't know graphics were that important to people. I mean, I love beautiful graphics, but it doesn't seem to impact my gameplay ability whatsoever.

Then again... my first games were 16-bit. O-o

Maybe that's it? What were the graphic capabilities of the first games you played? (not the oldest games you've played, but the first)"

Maybe that helps to explain Rowling's tolerance of slash pairings of her series?"

"Lol, like they tried to market The Bouncer as an interactive movie... and it was just beautiful but boring? XD

But why would a game be tedious and unfulfilling just because it has lower-end graphics? Doesn't tediousness come from gameplay? is Gameplay directly related to the graphics?"

Biometric Data, should they have it?

2 years 1 month ago

"Again, I'd like to say that I agree with your cause... but I really disagree with most of the points that you're all making. ^^;

Alcoholics Anonymous is anonymous because of privacy issues. People don't want other people to judge them based on an issue that they're embarrassed about, and are trying to recover from. If people knew that their identity as being Alcoholics would be revealed, they wouldn't go through the treatment.

People's faces are blurred out on cop shows on TV (and I'm talking about the United States. I realize that there are many people on this forum that are from other countries, and I may be ignorant to some of the laws in the other countries, so forgive me) because the United States constitution gives people a right to privacy, and blurring out people's faces in the media was brought up in courts and demanded on media companies, unless given the subjects consent, the ruling referring directly to this right to privacy as stated in the constitution. So very clearly this deals with privacy, and very clearly privacy is an important issue. It's not only considered essential to society, but according to the psychologist Abraham Maslow, when establishing his heirarchy of humanly needs he said that safety and security is the absolute most important need after physiological needs. He listed privacy as a subset of security.

Which leads me to my next question... you mentioned security as a different factor than privacy in a few of these. Why would you consider it different? Why else even have a concept of privacy if not to keep us in a state of mental or physical security? Isn't it just as important to keep ourselves emotionally secure and not throw us off the deep end, as it is to be physically secure?

With the issue of Biometric Data, however, the only people that have this information are people that would have your fingerprints and everything anyway- and I DON'T think it should be accessible to anyone else. And this data can assure others of better safety and better security, without imposing all that much on the privacy of the people as a whole in this case. Because the good that can come of it will definitely reinforce security as a whole, and will most likely not cause damage (or great damage) to the amount of privacy already in place, the good far outweighs the concerns.

"Sonicver2, I do agree with you, I think it has alot to do with the type of games you play.

But about Disgaea, I have to disagree with you in the fact that you tried to compare its graphics to Final Fantasy VI... Disgaea actually had REALLY good graphics, they were just designed in a different way.

The amount of time and detailing put into the sprites, background, and the way the sprites interact with the background ended up being about the same number of hours as it would take to make a few high-end FMVs for top graphic video games, or even the character models for high graphic video games. If you look at the sprites, you'll notice that although they're sprites, they're actually very well detailed, their movements VERY fluid, and they have many many different attacks, all of which are individually drawn pixel by pixel, frame by frame. I don't think that Final Fantasy VI (although it's a GREAT game!) can compare to Disgaea in terms of graphics. The graphics for the Disgaea series, as well as Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom, are really really good quality work, and they spent the same amount of time on it as a 3D generated game would spend... it's just that they spent all their time working on creating each frame by pixel from scratch, whereas it's a completely different process with a 3D engine.

But do good graphics have to mean 3D graphics nowadays? I mean the Disgaea games didn't sell as well as many 3D titles. Is it because of the sprites versus the 3D models? Or is it just because Altus is a lesser known game producer?"

When people are rude to you...

2 years 1 month ago

"I don't think a person is being rude by pointing out someone else's rudeness. I think that person is doing everyone a favor. I think people that are rude NEED that little kick in the face (verbal, of course) in order to put themselves in perspective and realize what they're doing. But of course it also depends on the situation. If it's your boss at work, for instance, or customers for the place of business, it's not a good idea to confront them, regardless of how rude they are.

But I like getting into confrontation, actually... especially if I feel that I'm doing the right thing (well, really only when I feel like I'm doing the right thing). I love to ruffle feathers where they need to be ruffled.

For instance, a friend of mine and I were at a restaurant, and the waitress that was serving us was suddenly halted by a high-class, well dressed middle-aged woman, who came rushing down the aisle in an outrage, suppressing a very obvious desire to yell at the poor waitress about why it was that the large party she was with was not given a large enough table. Now, understandably, if you are with a large group of people at a restaurant, you should expect to be accommodated, but this woman had the expression and the attitude that could only be justified by something equivalent of finding a rat running by her feet in that restaurant- which didn't happen... it was a table issue. A simple table issue that was as easily resolved as pulling two tables together (even the woman said this... apparently in trying to degrade this waitress by asking her how hard it was to pull two tables together). I simply couldn't stand this, and stood up and told her that she had NO right to speak to a waitress like this!

I'm not sure if she got the message, since she basically just turned around and walked away, hardly even giving me a second-glance, but the waitress appreciated it (the poor girl looked so scared... ;-; ) and she seemed to be a little less anxious as she followed her to fix the problem.

In my position, I think I had the right to tell this woman she was rude. However, if I was the waitress, sadly, I would have to suck it up, and let myself be yelled at for this stupid reason, and then try and fix it and make the customer as happy as possible.

I think knowing when to balance when to approach a situation like that, and when to leave it alone is important.

But someone else mentioned people saying "please" and "thank you" That actually doesn't bother me all that much... not personally anyway, but what does bother me is when I'm standing in line at a coffee store or something, and people order drinks from the coffee people in demanding ways like "Give me a- such and such" instead of "may I have-" or "I'd like to order...please?" I think it's because I have alot of sympathy for people who work in serving jobs... because it really feels crappy when people expect you to just produce results, overlooking the fact that the person giving you things is a human being. I think it also bothers me much more when people are rude to other people, and not so much when people are rude to me. Because I know I can stand up for myself when I need to, or I can understand situations when I shouldn't stand up for myself... but other people don't always stand up for themselves... "

"The PSP version has much more than just some new items.

It has new characters, two new classes, new side-quests, and you get to play as Delita at one point in order to see his perspective of the story as it unfolds.

The wifi stuff looks pretty cool, but I don't think you need it to have a new game experience with playing the re-release. "

"Yanno, I haven't played Final Fantasy XII, but I do think it looks pretty, and in the defense of graphics being important, despite the fact that you're not the only person that I've heard say that the story sucked, I still kinda wanna play it because of how it looks.

I mean, I played Final Fantasy X when it was first released, and MAN did I think that was the most incredible thing ever made! XD I was in awe with the graphics... but I think Final Fantasy X is one of the worst games in the Final Fantasy series ;-; But still.. the graphics drew me into wanting to play it. So maybe graphics are important, at least for a marketing standpoint... but that's kind of sad, though, don't you think, because people may be willing to give a chance to games just because they have good graphics, and ignore games that might have lower end graphics.

P.S. Much love for Final Fantasy IX ^_^
It didn't do as well as the other titles, but it's one of the ones I really enjoyed, VI, VII, and IX (and Tactics, of course). I was actually not so fond of Vi... though again, with the cut-scene graphics, it was definitely an improvement over VII, and they really pushed the in-game graphics to the limit (sometimes I thought they were pushed a bit too far, though ^^; parts of the game lagged, and the characters didn't seem to fit too well into the backgrounds)"

"ShinAkuma, you made a pretty good point about Call of Duty, the games by their nature, lend themselves to lean more heavily on graphics than other games might, but I definitely see your point.

But I do disagree with mowaiken and Longbow... I don't think that graphics have that much of an impact in RPGs... In fact, I think because of the nature of RPGs, they allow for more use of imagination, and so the graphics neither enhance or take away from the enjoyment of experiencing the game (at least to me), but they just make the experience different, a different way of playing a game. I liked playing Final Fantasy VII, for instance, where their facial expressions almost never changed, and they had those ugly polygon bodies... because it just left more for my mind to imagine. I felt more like I was reading a story than playing a game. With newer games, it feels more like watching an interactive movie, which isn't so bad either, it's pretty, and it's just a different experience. So I don't necessarily believe that one NEEDS to see anything when playing a game... not an RPG anyway. (if you go to the extreme with that, that's why text-based RPGs exist, but that's a little bit outside the boundaries XD )

On the other hand, FPS games and racing games and such rely heavily on graphics since they require minimal lag, good mobility, and better graphics in general... but I still enjoy the EARLIEST Grand Theft Auto games, when it was entirely birds-eye view, and it was SO hard to get into cars because you had to navigate around them just right XDDD. That's not a FPS, but it has shooting, and that's what it made me think of XD. "

"What's weird is that I do computer animation on the side. I LOVE nice graphics as much as anyone, yet they're among the LAST things on my mind when I pick a game... Graphics to me, are like the added bonus of a good game, they're not required, but awesome if they're there!

I don't know... I would play a game if it was released today if it had playstation 1 graphics... as long as I knew it was a good game. Take Final Fantasy Tactics for example. They just made a re-release, and even their updates are still stuff that could have been done on the playstation one. However, Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best Tactical RPGs ever made (not debatable, sorry XD. No, just kidding, but it really is awesome!) I think if Final Fantasy tactics was released TODAY for the first time, and I heard it was a great game, I would go and get it anyway.

But I understand it might be frustrating to expect something good and not get it... I also understand that graphics can enhance gameplay (The upgrade in Graphics in DDR, for instance, gives the arrows more fluidity, so they scroll smoother, which actually effects the delay that a player expects when playing).

I don't think graphics are the Devil, but I do think that alot of people focus too much on graphics, or at least I think so...

By the way, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core- HOLY CRAP it has amazing graphics!! I think as of now it's completely unsurpassed by any PSP game!! Absolutely AMAZING!"

""What privacy advocates need to learn is that anonymity is not a requirement for privacy."

Why?

Why then do they blur out people's faces on cop shows? Why do they have anonymous witness protection in courts? Why do they have anonymous tests? Anonymous call in for crimes? Alcoholics Anonymous?

Would exposing any of these people not infringe on their privacy?"

Drawing Questions

2 years 1 month ago

"Books are good, classes are great, but I agree, practice is the most important thing.

I take classes at a college, and they require you to draw from books when you get home.

The great thing about classes is that they FORCE you to practice. So they really really help. Plus, you're able to learn from a teacher that has lots of experience, and from other students that are going through the learning process with you. ^_^

Just remember to draw alot!

If you're just starting in Figure Drawing, for instance, a good author to look up is "Bridgman." He's VERY emphatic about the figure, but he is able to present it in a way that most people wouldn't have thought to look at it in... it's a very beneficial series of books, and you could get them at Amazon for very cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/103-3731493-4928644?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=George%20B.%20Bridgman

I would start out with "Human Machine" and "Bridgman's Life Drawing"

Good Luck"

"I completely agree with you, I think in the same case as fingerprints, it's important to have that information stored, and I don't think it directly imposes on any civil liberties in a way that overshadows it's helping effects (actually, I don't think it imposes on civil liberties at all)

However, I just wanted to point out that this statement is really a terrible thing to say:
"but I would first point out that it doesn't matter if they have them, unless you have something to hide!"

If you look back in history SO much of civil injustice was committed by using this exact logic as justification. I'm not saying that I don't agree with you, I'm just saying that saying "You shouldn't have anything to hide" is an absolutely terrible reason to justify this type of issue."

Expensive Things... Does it really give you status?

2 years 1 month ago

"Status is what you make of it... if you're in a social group that judges status on material possessions, and you judge yourself based on the principals of that social group, then material possessions would give you status. If you're an outsider with different principals, looking into this social group, then you wouldn't judge them on the same things, and so you wouldn't consider them to have status based on these material possessions. Of course, you could always make friends with people who don't judge you by the size of your wallet... in other words, you could define your own status by whatever you want, based on how you see yourself, and who you decide is worthy of placing judgement on you. ^_^"

why do you hate someone?

"The person I hate, I only hate because we used to be really close friends... and when circumstances made us understand that we have different opinions on life and friendship, I tried to peacefully go the other way, while this person insisted to use illogical and fallacious reasoning in order to keep some remnant of feeling attached to our relationship, however warped that feeling was. It ended up being hate for this person... and as much as I tried to ignore it, the fact that we used to be really good friends made it hard, and I began to hate this person too. I'm really really really trying not to, though, since there's still a link between this person and my other friends, and I do wish to keep peace."

"A samurai or expert swordsman would say that a sword feels like an extension of oneself, both in a spiritual sense, and in the fact that it acts as an extra appendage. This type of intimacy with a weapon can't be found in a gun... Also, the fact that there are swords out there that modern technology STILL Doesn't know how to replicate to such an incredible level of perfection signifies that the sword is a really superior weapon when compared to a gun, which is mass-produced and doesn't have that same sweat and blood poured into making it.
