"I have to respectfully disagree with diaz and shellova, reincarnation does not make god (if you believe in him/her) a helpless spectator in our lives/existence. if you were to hypothetically think of god as a computer programmer and the universe as his program. even if many if not all of the processes in the universe were self-executing, it would not mean god cannot make modifications or even end the program whiles it is running. this point also applies to the physics and the way many christians view creation. there is no reason to believe that how we are learning the universe and physical nature works, is not gods own design. frankly, that line of thinking is too rigid, one must open their mind to many possibilities (god has many possibilities too). our comprehension of reality is too weak to claim we know the design of the universe, or if you are religious, the plan of god. the bible can only teach you so much about god and life, the majority of all life's learning experiences are up to you.

sikoden, without proof your thoughts and beliefs as well as gat's and kieselgurgh's are no more then hypothetical ideas. no other idea can kill your belief unless you doubt them already, especially if the opposition cannot prove their side, this is the nature of belief or faith if you will.

the only so called evidence individuals who believe in reincarnation have done are of people under hypnosis. however, hypnosis is highly unreliable. people under hypnosis are suceptable to influence from the hypnotist. there is well documented evidence of people who were hypnotized, coming out of hypnosis with recovered lost memories of their current life that never existed. all because that particular hypnotist lead and influenced the person under hypnosis. when you go to a hypnotist that specializes in the reincarnation, he is going to ask specific questions that will usually lead him to his intended results.

kieselgurgh, i do not think that reincarnation requires that in the next life you remember anything from your previous life. so just cause you have not experienced memories from a previous life does not mean that you were not reincarnated, hypothetically.

"Everyone has problems with their siblings and sometimes one sibling is treated better then the other, especially if you are a girl. truth is its a waste of time to be angry and stay angry over something trivial like this. we seem to place so much importance on how our parents treat us but in the end your life is what you make of it. you can spend your time bitching and complaining, developing resentment towards your parents and your sister, but it is mentally unhealthy for you. that resentment, anger and attitude will affect every relationship you have down the road. you will be much better off if you shake it off, let it go, and move on. since you are 16 you can be out of your house and that situation in just a couple years (give or take), just grin and bear it."

"I am not a fan of smoking either, it bothers my asthma and irritates my sinuses, giving me a headache. however, i suggest you all be careful in this situation since to gain your rights you must step on the rights of other people. non-smokers rights are no more or less important then smokers rights. bans on smoking are little more then descrimination towards smokers. if a owner of a resturant wants to ban smoking in his resturant then i say he can but if a bar owner does not want to then i do not think he should have to. if you do not like smoking, you have as much ability to get up and walk away as any smoker does. consideration and compromise are two way streets. not to mention you can do something for yourself easier then you can make other people do it for you.

the only thing i am totally against is smoking around kids. those of us who do not have a choice should not be forced into breathing that miasma.

"Happiness and sadness are a just a matter of chemicals and hormones in a individuals brain. hypothetically, a normal human brain that can feel sadness and happiness, but had never had experienced it, would recognize a difference between a normalized/neutral state and a aroused state (happiness). the contrast in effects between neutral to happy states (one feels better then the other) is enough to be aware of the general concept of happiness. so yes you can be happy without being sad first."

actually i think suicide is pathetic and cowardly. it is simply the most selfish act a individual can commit. thanks to darwinism, events like this weed out the weak willed or genetically defective, allowing the stronger of us to prevail. sounds harsh? well life is harsh and unforgiving, you have to want life bad enough to make it in this world. our ancestors had living conditions hundreds times worse then our own, they beared the weight of those conditions and succeded, allowing us to be here today. i came from living conditions worse then there is here in the united states. born and raised till i was 13 in wartorn somalia, the horrible conditions did not make me want to give up but stand up and do something to make my life better. i do not care if it is that you have a psychological issue such as depression, the power of the mind is great and can even overcome that. people have learned to turn off pain receptors, raise body temperature, slow their heart rate, slow or even stop bleeding, eat glass without getting cut, and even walk on hot coals without being burnt. if all these things can be done so can recovering from depression on your own. you just have to want life bad enough.

actually, despite most individuals opinions, the majority of people are decent and ethical people. there are more good things happening in the world then bad, we just don't hear about the good things often. the minority in this world have learned very well how to manipulate the majority, making us think things are worse then they are and purposefully. things are hardly getting worse or nowhere near their worst. the end more then likely will be a long time from now. we have survived many things in the past with less knowledge then we have now and we will survive many things to come. there is a 100% certainty that someday our species will become extinct but i forsee no extinction level events in the immediate future.

"Yes my age is correct fluxbox and i am quite aware of the average age of the members in this community as was said in my previous post. i try not to get in full blown arguments or flamewars with people under specific age but in general posting, i will not spare anyone the sometimes blunt and shocking truths. sometimes i will downright crucify someone if they are being totally stupid. such as a thread earlier this week, where a kid was talking about punishing his family by ignoring and trying to leave them, because his mother is bi-polar and his sister chronic depression. what i said might have been hurtfull, especially when i know he was hurting, but his attitude and perspective of the situation was all wrong. he needed to move past his own feelings and petty resentments and help support his mother and sister. what they were going through was far worse then his hurt feelings. i will not loligag around the truth that so often needs to be drilled into the mind."

i hate to be judgemental against you (not really) but if you ever thought beyond your own feelings and emotions for second perhaps you could see how other people are feeling and whats happening to them. first off, bi-polar and depression are difficult things for the family members of someone who has this condition to deal with, but it is far worse for the person who has these conditions. have a little sympathy and empathy, neither your mother or your sister have any control over their disease (and thats what it is), they don't intentionally make things worse in your life, and they are suffering mentally. everytime they do something that hurts someone else, they know it, and it hurts them inside. without any support its a fast spiral downwards and the results have consequences (suicide and i bet your mom has thought about it) farther reaching then your petty resentment to their uncontrolled behavior.

there is no quick fix for this either. sometimes there is no fix at all, your mother and sister may be suffering for the rest of their life. show some compassion.

as for your dad, i do not agree with cheating, but i can see things from his point of view, which you should always put yourself in someones shoes before judging them. he deserves love, deserves to feel loved, and the peace of mind that comes with it. he probably was suffering right along with your mother as her disease progressed, they probably got more and more distant because of hurt feelings, eventually leading to him looking for support and good feelings elsewhere. i will not condone cheating but he has the right to happiness.

i know you are suffering as well, but if everyone in the family just falls apart, the support structure of that family falls with it. without any support or love, their situations may get worse. however with if you stand up and show them that they have someone they can depend on emotionally, things may get better. you don't have bi-polar or depression, you can actually do something to help or atleast try. you are not helping the stagnant situation of your family by avoiding them and making them feel like they have less people to count on. i hope you decide to do the right thing."

"I am rolling on the floor with how hard people are taking this, acting like it is making life more difficult for everyone. i said once before that no one can get things right the first time, probaly not the second or third time either. life is trial and error, science is trial and error, things change because things need to change. measurements of distance have changed countless times over history of mankind, becoming more accurate. it is not pointless it is progress. it is not difficult to devote another brain cell to memory.

i agree with grimmangel, the demotion of pluto does not diminish the discovery of pluto by Clyde Tombaugh. pluto is still a great find and one of the furthest and dimmest objects in our solar system. besides while technically pluto is a dwarf planet, that classification has gotten a nickname, called "pluton". so instead of having one dinky planet to call his own, he has a whole classification of celestrial objects named after his discovery."

"Duh.. if anyone says they haven't hurt a loved one ever they are liars. i have hurt people numerous times both intentionally and unintentionally, sometimes i regret and sometimes i don't, sometimes it's completely the other person's fault that they got hurt. there are too many cases for me to list them all and besides it is really none of anyone's business what the details of those events are.

i can gladly say there are somethings i have never done, i have never called my parents any name or even sworn in their presence nor have i ever commited a act of voilence against them, i have never stolen from them, but i have lied to them. my parents deserved respect and that is what they got."

"Nintendo has always made quality systems, the wii should be no exception. i find the controllers to be very interesting but i will hold back any judgement till i actually have one in my hand and see for myself just how well it works. it sounds like a good idea but so did the dual screen for the DS at first too. it has one major test to overcome and that is its game selection. i found the games for the gamecube to be well made but the game selection was poor compared to its predacessors. the only feature i figure should kick complete ass is its ability to play every game from the nintendo library. certainly am looking forward to the new zelda game as well.

i have heard of rumors for a next gen sega system... if that is true i so look forward to it!"

i don't know what computer science courses you could be taking in the very begining that would be overwhelming you. usually the first courses are introductory and low-level, so they should be easy, atleast the ones for your major. of course that may be just me, but if you are having trouble, find a tutor. most places offer you help either for free or at reasonable rates.

"I think it is funny that people are so against the change in pluto's status. it was astronomers and scientists that first labeled it a planet in the first place, instead of a asteroid or some other celestrial object. pluto was not a planet before we labeled it one, not even jupiter or mars was a planet before we labeled them one. truthfully, planets are just big hunks of rock, gas or ice floating in circle around the sun. it is not like the classifications existed before we did or that there are pre-set rules in the universe about what a object should be called.

i am so glad people like thewoundedsoldier are such experts, that they can sit there and act like they know what they are talking about. i doubt anyone who says something like that has given it much more then a couple minutes of thought."
